Recruitment Of 2024 Ugandan Census Enumerators Kicks Off; Here Are The Qualifications Recruitment Process for Census Enumerators Begins; Qualifications Outlined
The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) has initiated the recruitment drive for enumerators who will participate in the upcoming National Population and Housing Census scheduled to commence in May.
The Bureau is looking to hire 114,460 enumerators and 18,483 supervisors for the exercise.
Applicants should digitally apply for the jobs and steps to be followed have been provided on the UBOS website.
District chief accounting officers (CAOS) will directly be responsible for recruitment of all census enumerators.
“Whereas the recruitment is going to be centralised, the actual recruitment will be done by them,” Dr Chris Mukiza, the executive director Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOs), said.

The enumerators’ roles will include among others, helping with census groundwork that involves mapping out of the village-based census areas.
They will also engage in door-to-door community mobilization of the population on the census
During the census period from 9th to 19th May 2024, they will be tasked to collect information on all the persons, households, institutions and communities in their assigned enumeration areas.
The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) plays a crucial role in furnishing precise and dependable statistical data for Uganda. As part of its mission, UBOS will carry out the National Population and Housing Census (NPHC) 2024. Enumerators play a pivotal role in ensuring the success of this census by directly interacting with communities to gather essential data.
Job Description:
As an Enumerator, your primary responsibility will be conducting census enumeration within designated Enumeration Areas. Your tasks will encompass:
– Participating in and attending all provided training sessions.
– Mobilizing communities door-to-door for census participation.
– Identifying and marking boundaries of the assigned Enumeration Area (EA).
– Collecting precise information utilizing a provided tablet on individuals, households, institutions, and communities within the designated EA.
– Transmitting gathered data to the server on a daily basis.
– Providing daily progress updates to the Census Enumeration Supervisor.
– Compiling a comprehensive end-of-assignment report upon completion of the enumeration exercise.
Qualifications.
Any Ugandan aged 18 – 50 years of age is eligible for recruitment as an enumerator. In addition, a person should meet the following criteria;

Should have at least an “A” level certificate or its equivalent and with a credit in English and Mathematics at “O” level.

Prospective enumerators need to be recommended by the local authorities in their respective LC 1 areas.

Must be a Ugandan of good conduct, sound mind and fluent in the local languages spoken in the areas of enumeration.

Must possess knowledge in basic computer applications

Should have a valid National Identity Card issued by NIRA.

According to Chris Mukiza, the UBOS ED, this is essential in the payment process as those whose phone numbers are not registered in their names will not be paid.
The smartphones will also be required to work as “Plan B” in case the Tablets malfunction or don’t arrive on time.
