About the Program:

The ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development (EBID) is a bank that belongs to 15 countries in West Africa: Benin, Burkina Faso, Cabo Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, The Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, and Togo. The bank’s main office is in Lome, Togo.

Program Details:

EBID is looking to hire recent graduates for its Young Professionals Program from universities in West Africa and beyond.

This program is for talented young people under the age of thirty (30). If selected, you’ll work for the bank for two (2) years on a fixed contract. For the first six (6) months, both you and the bank can end the contract if things don’t work out. But if your performance is good, your contract will become permanent.

During your time at the bank, you’ll work in different departments to learn about its activities and be part of different teams. You’ll also be supervised by senior staff to understand the bank’s policies and programs.

 

Requirements for Application

If you are a citizen of an ECOWAS Member State and meet the following conditions, you can apply:

  1. Age: You must be under 30 years old when applying.
  2. Education: You need to have a Master’s Degree or a similar qualification in fields related to the Bank’s activities. These fields include Asset/Liabilities Management, Audit, Communication and Marketing, Finance, Engineering, Business Administration, Law, Accounting, Economics, IT, Human resources, Infrastructure, private sector operations, public sector operations, Risk Management, Language Services, or any other relevant area.
  3. Skills: You should be able to work well in a team and handle pressure in a diverse environment. Also, you need to have good analytical and organizational skills, with the ability to plan and prioritize tasks. Additionally, you should be proficient in conducting research to gather relevant information from external sources, such as banking analysis, statistics, and competitive trends.
  4. Computer Skills: You must be familiar with office automation systems like Excel, Word, Access, and PowerPoint.
  5. Language: You must be fluent in English, French, or Portuguese, and have a working knowledge of at least one of the other two languages.

Terms of Employment

As per the program’s rules, young professionals will be assigned to departments based on specific needs, not to fill vacant positions. Despite this, they will be considered as Professional staff of the Bank for the duration of their appointment. Their employment terms will align with those of grade P1-1 in the EBID staff classification and salary scale.

Additional allowances such as post adjustment allowance, housing and transport allowance, and family grant where necessary, will supplement their salary. Moreover, during their appointment, they will be enrolled in the Bank’s pension scheme.

Young professionals will also receive insurance coverage for death and permanent disability, total and permanent disability, temporary occupational disability, partial permanent disability, personal accident, and sickness.

  1. Your detailed resume;
  2. Copies of your qualifications;
  3. Copy of your national ID card or passport;
  4. Copy of your birth certificate;
  5. A letter explaining why you want to join the program, your skills and interests, relevant experience, and future career plans.

Recruitment Process

If you’re shortlisted, you’ll be invited to the Bank’s headquarters in Lome for written and oral tests. These tests will assess:

  1. Your technical skills;
  2. Your potential;
  3. Your personality and motivation;
  4. Your computer skills;
  5. Your ability to communicate verbally and in writing in at least two of the Bank’s three working languages.
