BONNY DEEP SEA PORT ACTIVITIES WILL IMPACT POSITIVELY ON NIGERIA’S ECONOMY

Can Nigeria be left behind in the jostle for efficient deep Sea Ports?
Global Maritime trade is rising day by day, but the facilities needed to support for smooth running of the trade is not enough in Nigeria.

With population advantage and with almost 80% of regional cargo traffic being Nigeria bound, Nigeria is the Natural hub of Maritime industry in West Africa and Central Africa Maritime region.

The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari, recently presided over the virtual ground breaking Ceremony of the rehabilitation and Construction of Portharcourt-Maiduguri Eastern Narrow Guage Railway Project, Bonny Deep-Sea Port and Railway Industrial Park in Portharcourt Rivers State.

These projects will serve transportation and supply Chain network for Domestic needs and export as well as support imports into the hinterland of the country through the new deep Sea Port in Bonny.

The Nigerian Ministry of Transportation, ably led by the Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibiuke Rotimi Ameachi, has continued to ensure the Nation’s transportation system supports the Government’s ambitious Economic growth and Job creation agenda.

The Bonny Deep-Sea Port project shall entail the construction of a deep seaport with a capacity of 100,000 DMT container vessel and 50,000 DMT bulk vessel on a total land take of 275 hectres in Bonny Island.

Maritime transportation remains the main gateway to the global market place, with the World’s economy totally depending on Sea trade, with more than 90% of overseas trade is routed through Sea ports.

The Bonny Deep-Sea Port will definitely put Nigeria at the forefront in active deep sea activities in Africa.
