What the Officer, Middle Office Role Really Does
This is not a pure front-office or pure operations job. You sit between the traders/portfolio managers and the back office. Your main job is to protect the bank by catching risks early and keeping every number clean.
Key daily and weekly tasks include:
- Running same-day valuations for all funds and communicating the prices on time
- Checking trades and transactions against Investment Committee and Deal Approval Committee rules
- Reconciling positions – trades, client holdings, securities, brokers, corporate actions, bank accounts, valuation systems and custodians
- Building and updating risk-control dashboards, exposure monitors and trend reports
- Preparing standard reports: imminent maturities, coupon trackers, mutual-fund NAVs, income attribution, SBPR performance, client service packs and regulator returns
- Assessing concentration, liquidity, counterparty, credit, interest-rate and model risks across funds and products
- Acting as the link between front office (portfolio managers, sales, client service) and back office (operations and finance) so problems get fixed fast
- Supporting system and automation fixes when platforms break
You will also handle any extra tasks the risk manager assigns.
