Government of ​Brunei Darussalam Scholarships 2022/2023 for Foreign Students (Fully Funded to Brunei). The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is pleased to invite applications for the Government of Brunei Darussalam Scholarship under the above Scholarship Award Scheme for the 2022/2023 academic session.

Tenable in Brunei Darussalam, the scholarship award provides applicants with the opportunity to undertake Diploma, Undergraduate Degree and Postgraduate Master’s Degree at any one of the following institutions of higher education:

  • Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD)
  • Kolej Universiti Perguruan Ugama Seri Begawan (KUPU SB)
  • Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA)
  • Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB)
  • Politeknik Brunei (PB)

The academic year commences July/August 2022.

1        ELIGIBILITY

1.1    Applications are open to citizens of, but not limited to, ASEAN, Commonwealth and OIC member countries.

1.2    Applicants must be, between the ages of 18-25 for Undergraduate and Diploma programmes and must not exceed the age of 35 for Postgraduate Master’s Degree programmes on the 31st July 2022.

1.3    The award is NOT eligible to Brunei Darussalam Permanent Residents.

2        PROGRAMMES OFFERED AND ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS

3       TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF THE SCHOLARSHIP

Terms and conditions of the scholarship will be provided to successful applicants who will be awarded the scholarship. A declaration will be required to be signed confirming understanding and agreement to the terms and conditions upon acceptance of the scholarship.

The terms and conditions include the following:

3.1    The scholarship recipient will be facilitated with the benefits of the scholarship as follows:

i)      exemption from paying tuition fees including acceptance, examination, registration and orientation fees for the duration of the programme;

ii)     an economy class air-ticket to Brunei Darussalam from the scholarship recipient’s country of origin/ country of domicile prior to the commencement of the course and an economy class air-ticket from Brunei Darussalam to the scholarship recipient’s country of origin/country of domicile upon completion of the course;

 

iii)    a monthly personal allowance of BND$500.00;

iv)    a monthly meals allowance of BND$150.00;

v)     an annual book allowance of BND$600.00;

vi)    accommodation at the residential college of the University/ Polytechnic;

vii)  baggage allowance for shipment of the scholarship recipient’s personal effects to the country of origin/country of domicile upon completion of the programme, at a maximum amount of:

  • BND$250.00 to a country within the ASEAN region; or
  • BND$500.00 to a country outside the ASEAN region;

viii) comprehensive insurance for the whole duration of the Scholarship. Scholarship recipients are, however, urged to obtain additional insurance prior to travelling to Brunei Darussalam and for the whole duration of the Scholarship at their own expense.

3.2    This scholarship shall not be held concurrently with any other scholarship, fellowship, grant or loan without the prior approval of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This scholarship may be terminated or revoked immediately should the scholarship recipient be found holding another scholarship, fellowship, grant or loan without prior written approval of the Ministry.

 

3.3    A scholarship recipient is not encouraged to bring any family members for the duration of the Scholarship. No marriage allowance nor child allowance is payable to the scholarship recipient and no accommodation will be provided to any accompanying spouse, child or children.

3.4    A scholarship recipient is not permitted to undertake any paid employment or to serve on the staff of any country’s representative mission in Brunei Darussalam during the duration of the scholarship.

3.5    A scholarship recipient is required to:

i)      conform to all the rules and regulations underlying this Scholarship;

ii)     abide by the rules and regulations of his University/ Polytechnic;

iii)    respect the customs, culture and official religion of Brunei Darussalam;

iv)    obey all the laws and regulations of Brunei Darussalam;

v)     refrain from engaging in political activities;

vi)    undergo health screening in Brunei Darussalam if deemed necessary by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

3.6    Upon completion of the programme, the scholarship recipient will be required to leave Brunei Darussalam with immediate effect.

4        APPLICATION PROCEDURE AND CLOSING DATES

4.1    Application forms can be downloaded from the following link:

4.2    Application forms must be duly completed and endorsed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the National Focal Point for scholarships of the applicant’s country.

4.3    Applicants are required to submit a security clearance statement from their National Security Agency(ies)/ Police Station (i.e. a statement/ report certifying that applicants are clear from any civil and criminal charges).

4.4    Completed application forms are to be emailed to the following address:

Please take note, all application forms and supporting documents are to be submitted in Word Document / PDF / JPG format (compressed ( .zip ) folder)

Applicants applying to Universiti Brunei Darussalam must also complete an online application through https://apply.ubd.edu.bn/orbeon/uis-welcome/.

4.5    Incomplete application forms will not be considered.

4.6    The closing date for the reception of completed application forms, together with certified copies of relevant certificates and documents is, not later than 1600 hrs (Brunei time) on 15 February 2022.

4.7    An applicant may be required to appear for an interview at such place(s) as may be determined by the institutions offering the programmes, and to sit for a written examination to assess the applicant’s proficiency in the English/ Malay/ Arabic Language (where applicable).

4.8    The Government of Brunei Darussalam reserves the right to reject any applications. The decision on the selection of candidates is final. Any disputes or enquiries pertaining to the decision made will not be entertained. Only successful applicants will be notified via e-mail.

How to Write a Cover Letter for a Job in 2022

What is a cover letter?

A cover letter is a one-page document that introduces a job seeker’s work history, professional skills, and personal interest in applying for a job.

The main purpose of a cover letter is to support the content of your resume. Your resume focuses on your qualifications and achievements, and your cover letter expands on those achievements, showcases your personality, and explains why you’d be a good fit for the company.

Although they might seem old-fashioned today, cover letters are still necessary. High unemployment rates in 2021 mean there are more job seekers than in the past, and writing a cover letter helps your application stand out when applying for competitive positions.

Attach an effective cover letter to your well-written resume, and your job application will quickly show managers and recruiters you’re both qualified and a great fit for the role.

 

What to include in your cover letter

How to write a cover letter that gets you the job

From top to bottom, here’s how to make a cover letter in six steps:

  1. Write out your contact information (and the employer’s details)
  2. Address the hiring manager (ideally by their name)
  3. Put together a clear, targeted opening paragraph
  4. Write informative, relevant body paragraphs
  5. Finish with a concise, direct closing paragraph
  6. Sign off (“Sincerely,” and your name below)

  • First and last name
  • Email address (something professional, usually including your name)
  • Phone number
  • Mailing address (optional)
  • Linkedin profile link (optional)

Below your contact details and left-aligned, include the date and the company’s contact information, such as the:

  • First and last name of the person you’re writing to, or the relevant department
  • Company address
  • Company phone number
  • Hiring manager’s email address

Here’s an example of how contact details are formatted on a professional cover letter:

2. Address the hiring manager (ideally by their name)

If you can address your cover letter to the reader using their name, do it.

Greetings like “To Whom It May Concern” and “Dear Sir or Madam” are old-fashioned, plus it’s easier than ever to find the right person’s name using LinkedIn, exploring a company’s website, or contacting their human resources department and asking.

Here are some cover letter salutation suggestions if you’re struggling to find the right information:

  • If you’re not certain about the recruiter’s title (like Mr., Mrs., Ms., Dr., etc.,) you can leave it out. For instance, “Dear Jane Smith” is acceptable.
  • If you can’t figure out who the recruiter is, guess. For example, if you’re applying for a marketing position, address the marketing director by name instead.
  • If you can’t find anyone’s name, address your cover letter to the department. For instance, “Dear Marketing Department” is okay.

Opening salutation examples

3. Put together a clear, targeted opening paragraph

Start your cover letter with an informative, direct introduction by including the following details in the first one or two sentences:

  1. Job position: The title of the advertised position
  2. Company name: The name of the company looking to hire
  3. How you discovered the opening: Whether you saw the job on LinkedIn, a job board, or were recommended to apply by a friend
  4. Intention to apply: An enthusiastic announcement that you’re applying for the open role

Including these four pieces of information makes it clear you’re a serious applicant — one who isn’t simply sending out a generic cover letter and hoping for a response.

You can also make your introduction even more attention-grabbing by adding a bit of personality, passion, or including a major career highlight. Don’t be afraid to let some of your unique personality shine through in your cover letter.

Just be sure to strike the right tone for your industry or field. For instance, if you’re applying for a job in law, keep your writing formal.

It’s been a lifelong dream of mine to become a character designer for Disney, which is why I’m so excited to apply for this open position.

Highlight a past achievement

I’m a believer that small details make a big difference, and I made my last boss a believer too after saving the company $60,000 in 2020 by simply analyzing and questioning each line on an enormous balance sheet. If Trulane Accounting is seeking an accountant who won’t skip over the small stuff, I believe I’m the perfect candidate for this job.

Express passion for your work

I’m excited to be applying for the social media position at Luxe Fashion. I’m what people now call an Extremely Online person, which is why I’ve been so successful at driving traffic and interest to my last company’s social media feeds — and I’d love to do the same for your brand.

4. Write informative, relevant body paragraphs

Next, it’s time to make a convincing argument you’re the right person for the job by discussing your experiences, skills, and achievements that are relevant to the position.

In one or two paragraphs plus bullet points (if you have some particularly impressive accomplishments to highlight), show the reader that you easily fit the needs outlined in the job description.

For job seekers with work experience

Hiring managers will look closely at your cover letter for evidence that you’re qualified and worth considering for the position. Use your recent work history and achievements to prove (with numbers) that you have the skills to get the job done.
