How to Prepare for Nigerian Army Physical Screening (92RRI 2026)
Shortlisted names for the Nigerian Army 92 Regular Recruit Intake go up on the official site. Screening runs from 17 November to 1 December 2026 in your state of origin. The Army does not publish a fixed scorecard for this intake. Centres still check height, documents, medical fitness and basic stamina.
Treat the venue like a filter. Weak papers, low height, high blood pressure or a collapse on the run end the day. Start training now. Do not wait for the shortlist.
What happens on screening day
Order changes by state, but the same blocks keep showing up:
- Document check against your photo card and originals
- Height (and sometimes chest expansion for men)
- Medical: BP, vision, general exam, tattoo and piercing check
- Physical drills: run, push-ups, sit-ups, squats or similar
- Short interview or observation of conduct
- Trade check if you applied as tradesman or tradeswoman
There is no pre-selection CBT for 92RRI. Phones and recording devices stay outside. The Army has said it is not liable for injuries at the venue. Arrive fit.
Official physical cuts you must already meet
| Check | Standard (92RRI notice) |
|---|---|
| Height (male) | Not less than 1.68 m |
| Height (female) | Not less than 1.65 m |
| Fitness | Medically, physically and psychologically fit by Army standards |
| Body marks | No tattoos, inscriptions or extra piercings (tribal marks allowed; women: no multiple ear piercings) |
Measure height at a clinic, not at home against a door frame. If you sit under the cut, do not travel.
Fitness targets to train for (not official 92RRI scores)
Past Regular Recruit intakes often used a timed run plus bodyweight work. Centres vary. Train above the usual bar so a hot afternoon or a longer route does not wipe you out.
| Event | Training target |
|---|---|
| Run | 2.4 km continuous. Aim under 12 minutes (men) and under 14 minutes (women) in training |
| Push-ups | 30–50 clean reps without collapsing |
| Sit-ups | 40–60 clean reps |
| Squats | 40+ controlled reps |
Clean form matters. Elbows lock on push-ups. Shoulders leave the ground on sit-ups. No bouncing.
8-week build if screening is mid-November
Train five or six days a week. Rest one full day. Walk on rest day if you must move.
Weeks 1–2
- Run or jog 1.5–2 km, 4 days
- Push-ups: 3 sets of as many as you can with 90 seconds rest
- Sit-ups: 3 sets
- Bodyweight squats: 3 sets of 15–20
Weeks 3–5
- Build the run to 3 km continuous, 4 days
- One day: faster 2.4 km time trial
- Push-ups and sit-ups: add 2–5 reps per set each week
- Add 20–30 minutes brisk walk after easy run days
Weeks 6–7
- 3–5 km easy run twice a week
- One timed 2.4 km
- One short interval session: 6 x 200 m jog recoveries if your joints tolerate it
- Keep strength work; do not max out every day
Week 8 (taper)
- Shorter runs only. No new personal-best attempt two days before you travel
- Sleep 7–8 hours
- Drink water. Cut alcohol and late-night suya grease
If you have chest pain, fainting, known heart or lung disease, or uncontrolled BP, see a doctor before this plan. Screening is not the place to find out.
Medical prep that actually saves people
Two to three weeks before you travel, pay for a simple hospital check:
- Blood pressure
- Vision (and colour if you can)
- Weight / BMI
- Teeth and skin infections
- Hernia check if you have groin pain or a bulge
Fix treatable problems early: dental decay, ear infection, ringworm, very high BP from salt and stress. Do not swallow unknown “BP drugs” from a chemist the night before. That can crash you on the run.
Stop smoking at least two weeks out if you can. Drink water the day before and the morning of screening. Eat a light meal 2–3 hours before you report. Do not arrive fasting and dizzy.

Conduct that gets you sent home
- Arguing with soldiers or jumping the queue
- Paying a tout at the gate
- Tattoos or extra piercings they can see
- Fake or mismatched certificates
- Cult marks or “I know someone” talk
Recruitment is free. If someone sells a “sure slot,” walk away.
Day-of routine
- Leave early. State centres fill before official start.
- Warm up: 5 minutes walk, light jog, arm circles, 10 easy squats.
- On the run, start steady. Do not sprint the first 400 m.
- Answer interview questions short and true: state of origin, school, why the Army, trade if any.
- If you fail one station, stay calm. Some centres complete the full line before they release people.
