Lagos state police command has reportedly arrested a young man identified simply as Chima, for allegedly setting his pregnant elder sister, Victoria, 20, on fire at their residence around CAC Bus Stop in Okokomaiko, Ojo, on May 14.
According to reports, Chima and Victoria —who was reported to be two months pregnant— were on the day of the incident, in the kitchen of the restaurant they operated as a family.
Trouble began when their mother scolded Victoria for leaving their residence to cohabit with men. An argument then ensued between both women and in the process, Victoria slapped her mother.
Infuriated by what his sister had just done, Chima reportedly grabbed a keg filled with petrol and hit her with it. The content poured out with most of it touching Victoria, which ignited fire leaving her with severe burns.
Victoria was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital on Kemberi road, Okokomaiko but the doctors there rejected her. She was then referred to the Alimosho General Hospital, Igando where she was confirmed dead by the doctors.
Chima was said to have attempted fleeing the scene after realizing the harm he had done to his sister but was restrained by youths in the community who later handed him over to the police.
It was learnt that their mother who tried to put out the fire also sustained burn injuries on her legs.
Confirming the incident, spokesperson of the state police command, Bala Elkana, said Chima has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) Yaba for further investigation.

Omalichanwa Cyprus: Jesus have mercy!!
This is bad!! Why so much anger to an extent of burning his pregnant sister?
This world is really not my own again. I’m officially tired 😓
Sylvia Chinyere: The setting of fire wasn’t intentional, I think the story said he used the gallon filled with fuel to hit her sis, which got opened and ignited fire in the kitchen where they were as at the time the quarrel ensued. No right thinking person will set fire on his or her own no matter the provocation. This is the devil at work
Helen Uche: And what was the mother doing? Looking at her son set her daughter ablaze because she slapped her? If she had brought up her children to be obedient in the lord and to honor their parents would there ever be an occasion where a child would raise her hand to her elder? Failed generation… God have mercy
Ukamaka Idoko: Setting her pregnant sister ablaze i don’t think it is ordinary eyes but her sister slapping their mother it might be deu to frustration, bcos some mothers knows how to abuse some one times especially if one gets pregnant out of Wedlock or if one mistakely married to a man that the mother did not approve and may God punish poverty if at last that man couldn’t take care of you eheeeee Rip to her.
Atu Philomena: Hot temper is one of their attributes, daughter slapped mother, for what,as how? Then brother set sister on fire! Are they mad? Its a pity, the rest should work on their temperaments and pray more
Christian Palace: But we human sha, if God should release his anger upon you for the sins you’ve committed in life bro it will burn you more than hell. I think it would be better if you’ve slapped her back than taken her life
Best Favour: My own brother don’t even like his siblings, not even mum🤷🤷 the only one he admired is outsiders, imagine sometimes my mum do wonder if he was still the same child she dedicated, she spent everything to make him be successful, yet he turned out to be prodigal, some families have similar issue, but I pray our kids shall not hate us for no reason, they shall always be a blessing to us and shall be our pride ijn🙏🙏🙏
