What SSCC Course 50/2027 actually is
Short Service Combatant Commission (SSCC) is how the Nigerian Army commissions graduate officers into fighting and combat-support units. It is not the same as Regular Combatant Commission from NDA, and it is not DSSC (which is for professionals into specialist corps).
After training and commissioning, SSCC officers serve only in:
- Combat Arms: Infantry Corps, Armour Corps
- Combat Support Arms: Artillery, Engineers, Signals, Intelligence Corps
Successful cadets leave training as Second Lieutenant. Seniority starts from the date cadet training begins.

Who can apply for Nigerian Army SSCC 50/2027
The Army accepts two groups:
- Civilians with a first degree or HND
- Soldiers, Ratings and Airmen who meet the extra service rules
Core eligibility (everyone)

- Male or female, aged 23 to 27 by 10 January 2027

Age in plain language
On 10 January 2027 you must already be 23 and you must not be older than 27. If your birthday makes you 22 or 28 on that date, do not apply. The portal and the Selection Board will check your birth certificate against that date.
Extra rules for civilian applicants
- NYSC discharge certificate is mandatory
- Letter of Attestation from the degree-awarding institution
- Two referees who know you and can stand for your character. Each referee must be one of:
- Local Government Chairman or Secretary
- Armed Forces officer not below Lieutenant Colonel (or equivalent)
- Assistant Commissioner of Police
- The referee must hail from your state of origin
- Passport photographs of the referees must be affixed to the attestation letter
Extra rules for serving military personnel
- Valid military identity card
- Recommendation letter from your Commanding Officer or Commander
- No open disciplinary case; CO/Commander must endorse you
- Valid letter(s) of official sponsorship for your tertiary education
- Minimum of 5 years service in the Armed Forces of Nigeria
- NYSC exemption certificate (not discharge)
- You must declare your service status on the form. Hiding it is an offence under the Harmonised Terms and Conditions of Service, and it will also get you disqualified

Documents to scan before you open the portal
Prepare clear colour scans. Blurry NIN slips and cropped certificates waste attempts.
| Document | Who needs it |
|---|---|
| Recent passport photograph | Everyone |
| Degree / HND certificates and transcripts | Everyone |
| WAEC/NECO and primary certificates (originals later) | Everyone (tender originals from primary to tertiary) |
| Certificate of state of origin | Everyone |
| Birth certificate (NPC, hospital or LGA) or valid age declaration | Everyone |
| NIN slip and BVN slip | Everyone |
| NYSC discharge certificate | Civilians |
| NYSC exemption certificate | Serving personnel |
| Institution letter of attestation | Civilians |
| Two referee attestation letters with referee photos | Civilians |
| Military ID + CO recommendation + sponsorship letter | Serving personnel |

Names must match across NIN, BVN, certificates and the form. If your certificate still carries a maiden name or a missing middle name, fix that paper trail before you apply.
How to apply on the official SSCC portal (step by step)
- Open https://nashortservice.army.mil.ng and choose the SSCC option.
- Read the conditions of entry for SSCC Course 50/2027.
- Click Apply Now for SSCC 50/2027.
- State whether you are serving or have served in the Armed Forces. Pick the correct option.
- Sign up with an email you can open on your phone. A verification link will arrive. Set your password, then log in.
- Fill the form. Upload the documents listed above.
- Submit. Print the online photo-slip immediately. Save a PDF copy.
The Army said applications that are incomplete or inaccurate will be disqualified. Do not create two accounts with two emails. Use one.
What to do with the printed photo-slip
Printing is not optional. The slip has two pages that must be signed before the Selection Board:
- Page 1: signed by the Registrar of any Court of Law
- Page 2: signed by your Local Government Chairman/Secretary, or any military officer of Lieutenant Colonel (or equivalent) and above who hails from your state of origin
If you are shortlisted, you will take the printed forms (photo-slips, guarantors form, attestation form and the rest) to the Selection Board interview. Unsigned pages are a common reason people travel for screening and get sent home.
Conditions of service after you are commissioned
- SSCC lasts 15 years.
- The first 10 years are the initial bonding period on the active list.
- After that, the commission may be renewed for not more than 5 years.
- No extension after year 15 unless you convert to Regular Combatant Commission.
- Conversion is a privilege. It is not automatic. It depends on vacancies and the rules in force at the time.
- Every graduating cadet must sign the SSCC terms before commission.
- For civilians, reckonable service starts on the date cadet training begins.
- For military personnel applicants, reckonable service starts from their original date of enlistment.
If you want a full Regular Combatant career from day one, SSCC is not that route. If you want a faster officer path into Infantry, Armour, Artillery, Engineers, Signals or Intelligence, this is the intake now open.
Scam warning: ignore every portal that opened before this advert
The Army printed this caution in Daily Trust and on its official channels: disregard any online application portal opened before this publication.
In July 2026 the Army already publicly disclaimed a fake SSCC 50/2027 advert circulating on social media. Recruitment is free. Nobody is authorised to sell a form, “help” you upload documents, or collect money for shortlisting.
Use only:
- Verified Nigerian Army handles and national newspapers
- The two enquiry lines above, 8am to 6pm
Watch for official TV and radio jingles after the newspaper publication. If a WhatsApp admin asks for an “access fee” or a “medical slot payment,” block the number. Nigerian Army SSCC 50/2027 Application Guide : Apply via nashortservice.army.mil.ng
What happens after you submit
The advert does not publish the interview calendar yet. From previous SSCC/DSSC cycles, expect this sequence:
- Online screening of documents and bio-data
- Publication of shortlisted names
- Selection Board (medicals, physicals, credentials check, oral interview)
- Cadet training for those who pass
- Commission as Second Lieutenant
Take originals of every certificate from primary school to NYSC when you are invited. The Board will compare them with what you uploaded.

Quick eligibility check before you pay for scanning
- Will you be 23–27 on 10 January 2027?
- Is your degree 2:2 or better, or HND Lower Credit or better, dated 2018 or later?
- Do you have NYSC discharge (civilian) or exemption (serving)?
- Can you stand 1.68m (men) or 1.65m (women)?
- No tattoo, no cult, no conviction, no dismissal from a training depot?
- If serving: 5 years in and a CO who will write for you?
If any answer is no, do not open the form. A rejected application still leaves your data on a military portal.
FAQ
Is the Nigerian Army SSCC 50/2027 application free?
Yes. The Army said applications are online and free of charge. Anyone asking you to pay for a form, portal access or shortlisting is running a scam.
What is the deadline for Nigerian Army SSCC Course 50/2027?
Saturday 17 October 2026. The portal opened Friday 14 August 2026. Submit early so you still have time to reprint and get the court registrar and LGA / Lt Col signatures.
Can women apply for SSCC 50/2027?
Yes. The advert is open to male and female applicants. Height for women is 1.65m. The same age, degree and NYSC rules apply.
What is the difference between SSCC and DSSC?
SSCC commissions officers into Combat Arms and Combat Support Arms (Infantry, Armour, Artillery, Engineers, Signals, Intelligence). DSSC is the specialist/professional route into other corps. Age bands, course length and posting also differ. This intake is SSCC only.
Do I need NYSC to apply?
Civilian applicants must upload an NYSC discharge certificate. Serving military personnel upload an NYSC exemption certificate. There is no waiver in the published advert.
Which certificates from before 2018 are accepted?
None for the tertiary award. Only tertiary academic credentials obtained from 2018 to date will be considered. Older first degrees and HNDs fall outside this course.
