NPower News Today: FG resumes payment of arrears to N-Power beneficiaries

NPower News Today: FG resumes payment of arrears to N-Power beneficiaries The Federal Government has resumed payment of arrears to beneficiaries of the N-Power program.

The payment of arrears to beneficiaries of the N-Power programme has been resumed by the Federal Government, said the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu. The N-Power scheme was established in 2016 by former President Muhammadu Buhari to address youth unemployment and promote social development. The beneficiaries were owed several months’ salaries by the previous administration and the payment was paused when President Bola Tinubu assumed office.

Former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration owed the beneficiaries a few months’ salary.

However, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, said payment of arrears to beneficiaries, which began on Wednesday (yesterday), will continue until the last person is paid.

Edu was a guest on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday.

“Currently, a payment for N-Power is being made; we were in the office yesterday until the early hours of the morning to ensure that young people received the money owed to them by the previous government.

“So, N-Power beneficiaries across the country, I am sure you can attest that you see your money in your accounts and this process will continue until the last person who actually won is paid.

“And of course, all of this is being restructured to ensure that we reduce unemployment and create jobs for Nigerians,” Edu said.

N-Power is a program created by then President Muhammadu Buhari on June 8, 2016, to address the issues of youth unemployment and help boost social development.

The program was temporarily suspended after President Bola Tinubu took over from Buhari, but Edu explained that the current government wants to clear the baggage of previous years before resuming the program.

“The Renewed Hope N-Power hasn’t been relaunched yet. We’re still trying to deal with the baggage from previous years. So these are people who have been owed money for a few months.

“We had a consultant who managed the disbursements of this money to N-Power beneficiaries. However, the money was kept with the consultants for several months without paying the beneficiaries.”

“So what the government has done is put the money back into the TSA CBN government account and has now started investigating the beneficiaries, which is what took us so long and that is why we are calling the youth to be patient”, declared the minister.
