SMEDAN SPEED PITCH SME COMPETITION: ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT SMEDAN
SMEDAN, the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria, has launched a fresh initiative dubbed “SMEDAN Speed Pitch,” with the aim of boosting financial literacy and easing access to funding for small enterprises.
Charles Odii, SMEDAN’s Director-General, outlined that the initiative forms part of the agency’s ‘GROW Nigerian’ approach, crafted to bolster local production by furnishing SMEs with financial and non-financial assistance, encompassing market access, knowledge enrichment, mentorship, and tools for sustainable advancement.
As conveyed by Peter Adeshina, the Special Adviser on Media to the Director-General of SMEDAN, contenders will undergo training to refine and eloquently present their distinctive business concepts, feasibility, and capacity to unlock opportunities, including domestic and international investments.
The first edition of the competition, set to kick off on May 1, 2024, is part of the NSME Engagement Series, spearheaded by Jennifer Adighije, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Entrepreneurship and Innovation/Digital Economy.
To partake in the inaugural edition, businesses must be female-owned, officially registered, and operational for a minimum of three years. Applications will be open from April 24 to April 27.
Selected applicants will face a screening process to identify the top five performers who will earn the chance to showcase their pitches at the main event in Lagos.
Interested participants are required to upload a three-minute video pitch on social media, introducing themselves, spotlighting their product/service and its problem-solving aspect, and advocating why they merit consideration. Additionally, applicants should adhere to and tag SMEDAN’s official pages (@smedaninfo) and employ the hashtag #SMEDANSpeedPitch.
The ultimate winner will secure a ₦1,000,000 prize to fortify their workforce, procure work tools, and broaden their business horizons. Runners-up will receive ₦300,000 and ₦200,000 respectively, in addition to complimentary Business Development support.
