THE JABI LAKE PARK, ABUJA; THE INSENSITIVITY OF THE FCT MINISTRY AND OTHERS.
On Wednesday November11, 2020 about 10am, a group of people numbering over 100 (supposedly, taskforce) were seen in the Jabi Lake Park destroying and confiscating goods of poor/hustling Nigerians who are legitimately fending for themselves and other members of their families.
We gathered that the action was based on the orders of the Minister of FCT, Mohammed Bello, his Education counterpart and the Director of the Abuja Environmental Protection Board, Mr, Hassan.
It was a pathetic sight as the invaders took away sports wears, fruits, fruit drinks and water belonging to the traders. Some lost their fruit juice extractors and generators.
The destroyed goods, it might interest you to know are owned by widows, couples, single ladies and youths who are without government support of any kind. How wicked can the government be? Amidst the impact of COVID 19 hardship and the #EndSars protest that saw lives and properties lost, the govt still went ahead to destroy the means of people’s livelihood.
Incidentally, the Jabi Lake Park has been a subject of litigation between the original developers, Julius Berger and the Federal Capital Territory.
It is therefore surprising that the FCT Ministry will invade the place while the matter is pending in Court.
This is definitely not the way to treat poor Nigerians after a COVID-19 era, who are struggling to earn a living.
The FG under President Buhari should see that the confiscated goods are released and those destroyed are duly and fully compensated.
