The LLM Human Rights and Democratisation in Africa is a one-year Master’s course. Each year, 25–30 outstanding students:

Spend 6 months in Pretoria, South Africa
Spend 6 months at one of 12 top universities across Africa

After graduating, you’ll join the HRDA Alumni Network—a group of over 500 human rights leaders working across the African Union, UN, NGOs, and more.

Who Can Apply for the University of Pretoria LLM Scholarship 2025?

You must:

Be a citizen of any African country
Have a Law degree (LLB, licence en droit, or licenciatura em direito)
OR
An Honours degree in a related human rights field
Be invited to apply for the Master’s program at the Centre for Human Rights, University of Pretoria

Other Criteria:

Show a strong passion for human rights and democracy in Africa
Be ready to use what you learn to help your community or country
Gender balance and regional diversity are important
Scholarships are also open to applicants from vulnerable communities, including people with disabilities, indigenous groups, and LGBTQ+ individuals
