Register as a NEIS Election Agent: Complete 2026 Guide

Want to help protect the vote at your polling unit? Register as a NEIS Election Agent through the Nigeria Election Intelligence System Civic Agent Network.

NEIS runs an independent Parallel Vote Tabulation platform. Agents upload Form EC8A results from assigned polling units on election day. This creates a second data source that can be compared with official uploads.

Registration is open now. Approval is not automatic. Any payment or allowance must be confirmed only through official NEIS channels before you apply. Registration alone does not guarantee approval or compensation.

What Is the NEIS Civic Agent Network?

NEIS (Nigeria Election Intelligence System) is an independent, non-partisan civic platform. It is not part of INEC.

INEC alone declares official results. NEIS collects field reports from civic agents, links them to evidence, and surfaces discrepancies for review. Public data on the site shows reporting coverage and source status. It does not replace statutory declarations.

The network aims for broad coverage across Nigeria’s roughly 176,846 polling units. Up to three agents can be assigned per unit. Recent public updates have shown tens of thousands of registered agents, with recruitment continuing ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Main Responsibility of a NEIS Election Agent

Your core task is straightforward. On election day, upload the Form EC8A (Polling Unit Result Sheet) from your assigned polling unit exactly as the system instructs.

This includes:

  • Capturing or photographing the completed EC8A
  • Entering or transmitting the figures through the agent portal
  • Following any location or evidence requirements the platform requests

The goal is accurate, independent reporting from the polling unit. NEIS uses these submissions for cross-checking and coverage tracking. You are not an official INEC polling agent or collation officer.

NEIS has previously used similar agent reporting during off-cycle elections, including the 2026 Osun governorship.

How to Register as a NEIS Election Agent

Registration happens on the official site. Use the Civic Agent or Volunteer page at neis.ng/civic

  1. Open the registration page and start a new application
  2. Provide personal details. Use the phone number you will carry on election day. Email is required for verification codes and credentials
  3. Enter your NIN (11 digits). This improves your verification score. Also supply the 19-character code from your voter’s card.
  4. Select or enter your polling unit. Location sharing is optional but helps verification.
  5. Complete the background section. Longer, clear responses raise your verification score.
  6. Submit and verify your email with the 6-digit code. Check inbox and spam/junk folders.
  7. Save your reference number. Your application then moves to human review. A 4-digit PIN is sent by email if approved.

All registrations are reviewed individually. Data integrity is a stated priority. After approval, check the coverage explorer or election pages to confirm assignment details.

Agent login is available at the official portal once you receive credentials.

Who Can Apply and What You Need

You need to be able to reach your assigned polling unit on election day and use a smartphone or device with internet access when required. The system supports offline queuing for submissions in areas with poor connectivity.

Useful items include:

  • Valid voter’s card details
  • NIN
  • Active email and phone number
  • Willingness to follow exact upload instructions

NEIS does not publish a rigid list of exclusion criteria publicly, but verification scores consider identity details, profile completeness, and other factors. Party membership is not a barrier—the platform states it is open to Nigerians focused on accurate polling-unit reporting.

After Approval: What Happens Next

Approved agents receive login details and a PIN by email. Watch your inbox (including spam) closely.

On election day you report from your assigned unit according to the system instructions. Coverage maps show which units already have agents and where more are needed. Maximum of three per unit.

You can also check assignment status by drilling down through the public election pages once credentials arrive.

Why Join the Network?

One polling unit at a time builds broader independent visibility. Agents contribute source-linked reports that help surface mismatches before higher-level collation.

The platform already demonstrates this approach with live and archived election data. Broader coverage reduces reliance on a single data path.

It is voluntary civic work. Treat it as such unless official NEIS documentation explicitly confirms otherwise for your case.
