Job Title: Electrician

Main Purpose of Job

  • The electrician must carry out effective day-to-day maintenance work, Prepare and file all maintenance reports in accordance with the PCA folder arrangement; interface between the Lagos office and contractors on electrical issues; routine maintenance; preventive maintenance; breakdown maintenance, new installation; and construction works.

Roles and Responsibilities
To include, but not be restricted to the following duties:

  • To work in accordance with FCDO Standard Operating Procedure and comply with the requirement for electrical installation as stipulated by the IET BS7671 wiring regulation.
  • Organise and file all electrical maintenance reports and checklists in accordance with the FCDO property compliance assessment filing system.
  • Coordinate the activities of contractors working in BHC properties, which includes supervision of all electrical maintenance work, conducting toolbox talk during maintenance and documentation of contractors risks assessment/methods statement RAMS.
  • To raise work requests using fault fixer and monitor the progress of the request.
  • Assist the Technical Works Group (TWG) to attend to work requests on a regular basis as it affects the mission’s operations.
  • Responsible for filing of all electrical maintenance report/checklists, permits and risk assessments, ensuring they are properly documented on a daily basis.
  • Follow FCDO health & safety standards in regular works, also ensuring compliance with all TWG work practices and policies.
  • Assist TWG team to complete planned preventive maintenance (PPM) works and meet deadlines as per the electrical team’s Calendar schedule.
  • Attend to all ad-hoc tasks delegated by the Electrical Technician (LM) and provide relevant updates through weekly report.
  • Carry out daily routine inspections and maintenance of all electrical panels and distribution boards across the Office complex.
  • Conduct routine and corrective maintenance of all small power outlets.
  • Carry out routine Inspection and maintenance of Generators, ATS, Capacitor bank, and LV Stabilisers etc.
  • Carry out routine Inspection and maintenance of building elevators (lift), Fire system and Disable refuge system.
  • Carry out routine Inspection and maintenance of all fan coil units and room thermostats and complete the checklist accordingly.
  • Conduct weekly test on fire alarm and disable refuge system and document the report.
  • Responsible for all Energy Isolation and De-Isolation during maintenance.
  • Read and interpret blueprints or Electrical diagrams.
  • Install and maintain wiring, control, and lighting systems.
  • Install, maintain or repair electrical wiring or equipment.
  • Routine inspection and maintenance of electrical components, such as transformers and circuit breakers.
  • Identify electrical problems with a variety of testing devices.
  • Follow the building regulations based on British standard BS 7671.
  • Execute plans of electrical wiring for well functioning lighting, intercom and other electrical system.
  • Install safety and distribution components such as switches, sensors, resistors, circuit breakers, relays and other electronics components.
  • Prepare and assemble conduits both galvanized and PVC and connect wiring through them.
  • Perform effective troubleshooting to identify hazards or malfunctions and repair or substitute damaged units.
  • Connect wiring in electrical circuits and networks ensuring compatibility of components.
  • Must be available for callout duties.

Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience  

  • Must hold a National diploma in electrical or  Electrical Labour Trade Test 1, 2, & 3 (Ministry of Labour & Productivity Certificate of Competence)
  • Note:  British Standard BS 7671 is mandatory

Desirable qualifications, skills and experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years experience providing Electrical maintenance and installation services in Multi-complex Office buildings.
  • Possess 2 and 4 wheel vehicle driving license.
  • Computer literate – Word, Outlook (email) and Excel.
  • Trained Watford 1500kVa Stabiliser maintenance personnel.
  • Experience maintaining MCC panels.
  • Experience maintaining DDC Panels.

Working patterns:

  • On Site working
  • The Job holder must have a drivers licence and must be able to drive the TWG Pick ups

Salary
USD1,102.61 Monthly.

Roles and Responsibilities
Investigation:

  • Support individual case working investigations as tasked by Home Office International Operations.
  • Support individual case working investigations as tasked by the Head of Section and Her Majesty’s Passport Office (HMPO) as well as other government departments.
  • Disrupt the flow of illegal migration by air to the United Kingdom and identify and disrupt the activity of the organised crime groups behind it.
  • Support Visa Status and Information Services (VSI) section to protect the integrity of the UK visa regime and identify and disrupt the activity of organised crime groups attempting to exploit it.
  • Support the development of operational intelligence products through the collection, interpretation, and evaluation of relevant quantitative and qualitative information sources.
  • Work closely with HMG partners at post, host authorities, and international partners to support the development of intelligence and investigations to disrupt organised crime groups.
  • Support training sessions with international partners.
  • Provide presentations to host authorities and international partners.

Crime:

  • Use collaborative working with overseas and UK law enforcement partners to develop intelligence and investigations to disrupt organised crime groups targeting the UK.

Intelligence Gathering and Analysis:

  • Support the development of operational intelligence products through the collection, interpretation, and evaluation of relevant quantitative and qualitative information sources.
  • Use strong problem-solving skills to identify and investigate suspected organised immigration crime and gather evidence-based intelligence.
  • Ensure that all relevant intelligence is gathered, assessed, and disseminated in line with guidance.

Liaison:

  • Build effective working relationships with host authorities, international partners (FCC/EU), and UK partners to support the delivery of crime and intelligence objectives.
  • Lead the exchange of actionable intelligence with local law enforcement partners and counterparts in other diplomatic missions to identify and mitigate threats to the UK border.
  • Represent the Home Office professionally, developing effective partnerships with the wider British High Commission and key external partners.

What We Do

  • HOIO operates to prevent illegal immigration and disrupt the organised immigration crime groups behind it, supporting both the Immigration Enforcement mission and the Home Office purpose.

We have staff deployed to approximately 42 locations across the world. We deliver this by:

  • Providing intelligence support to the UK visa operation, supporting UKVI to take an increasingly global approach to risk streaming built on the analysis of objective data and enhanced with local risk indicators.
  • Working with carriers around the world to reduce the threat of inadequately documented arrivals (IDAs) reaching the UK by air and sea.
  • Developing intelligence packages related to the visa or air threat for subsequent criminal investigations and prosecutions.
  • Engaging with stakeholders, including the provision of training and upskilling to airline staff.

What We Want From You

  • In order to meet Home Office security requirements, you must be able to pass security clearance to the Official level.

Skills and Qualities

  • Excellent interpersonal skills to build relationships with key partners and assist Home Office International Operations in delivering their objectives.

Main purpose

  • The British Deputy High Commission (BDHC), Lagos, employs over 150 staff, and is the centre of our trade, private sector development, and law enforcement cooperation with Nigeria.
  • We also act as a regional hub for a number of projects and services across West Africa. BDHC Lagos is part of the UK’s wider diplomatic network in Nigeria and operates in partnership with the British High Commission, Abuja.
  • Our Corporate Services team is the core of BDHC and responsible for the entire operational platform including Estate Management, Transport, IT, Finance, Human Resources (HR) and Protocol.
  • Working closely with the Head of Corporate Services (HCS), the Deputy Head will provide effective Corporate Services to the BDHC, ensuring excellent service delivery, value for money and robust compliance.
  • You will be expected to deliver results both individually and through leadership of the large (70+)  Corporate Services section.
  • Alongside your specific portfolios, you will support the HCS in giving the team strategic leadership and in developing staff. You will also deputise for the HCS when required

Roles and Responsibilities
Corporate Services- General:

  • Supporting the HCS in the day-to-day running of the BDHC platform. Delivering high-quality services in all Corporate Services functions.
  • Responsibility for specific portfolios within the platform and all related activities.
  • Ensuring excellent customer service, value for money and compliance with policies/ procedures and audit requirements.
  • Setting clear performance standards and monitoring performance against Key Performance Indicators across the platform.
  • Contributing to strategic planning for the platform, working with the HCS and the Nigeria Network CS Management team.
  • Building and maintaining a constructive interface between Corporate Services, other sections in FCDO and external service providers.

Financial Management:

  • Working alongside the Head of Corporate Services on all finance related process including; management of Post’s operational budget, forecasting, reconciliation and all other finance related processes. Working proactively with budget holders and the Procurement Team to ensure accurate, timely and evidence based forecasts are produced.

Estate Management:

  • Working with the Head of Corporate Services, the Regional Technical Lead, the Technical Works Supervisor and our Technical Works Group (an in-house group of artisans including electricians, AC engineers, carpenters and painters) to manage the whole HMG estate in Lagos.
  • Monitoring and managing maintenance issues and working with, and helping to guide, the TWG team, to better manage the estate
  • Chairing the weekly TWG team meeting
  • Long-term planning to ensure the consistent provision of Corporate Services during periods of high demand.  This will include financial and team planning.
  • Crisis preparedness: You will play a key role in ensuring that the BDHC is fully prepared for any crisis, coordinating preparedness across the Corporate Services team and supporting crisis logistics specifically.
  • Leadership and management of projects and change management where required.
  • Deputising for the HCS as required and undertaking the HCS role during periods of absence

IT:

  • Oversight and management of all IT related activities at post, including leading on IT change management activities, all major IT service incidents and IT security at post.
  • Leading the IT support team to assess, diagnose and troubleshoot user and system issues. Monitoring tickets and managing through to resolution, working closely with key stakeholders and service providers, to ensure issues are resolved according to SLA’s.
  • Managing IT suppliers to ensure efficient and secure service delivery, according to FCDO standards.
  • Ensuring all service and support functions remain responsive to customer needs.
  • Managing and communicating all technical change with appropriate governance.
  • Putting in place a programme of continual service improvement across the wider service delivery function

Transport:

  • Responsible for managing the Transport section by ensuring the Transport Manager provides an efficient and effective transport service.
  • Working closely with the Security team and all other key stakeholders to ensure safe delivery of Transport services.

Resources managed (staff and expenditure):

  • Line management- Transport Manager (EO), 1 x Lead ITSO (EO), 1 x Post Accountant (AO), 1x Fuel Officer (AA): ensuring regular feedback on their performance and conducting annual appraisals on time.
  • Assist staff with their training and with learning and developing.
  • Countersigning/quality assurance of other CS staff
  • Oversight of large team of drivers (Approx. 25) in the Transport team.
  • Alongside the head of Corporate Services, oversight and management of post admin budget circa £3 million.

Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience  

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in Corporate Services management or a similar environment.
  • Excellent communication skills – written, oral, one-to-one, group, formal presentations – ability to vary style, pace and presentation to suit the audience.
  • Budget management skills/experience.
  • Able to adapt to a quick changing and evolving business environment; working proactively and autonomously.
  • Ability to prioritise and deliver high quality results on multiple areas of work with tight deadlines.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English.

Desirable Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • ACCA/ICAN/CIMA diploma
  • Minimum of 2 years relevant professional experience in IT support services and IT Management.
  • Degree in Computer Science; with professional Information Systems qualifications, Microsoft would be preferable
  • Experience in managing IT Service Desk processes
  • Experience in user desktop support, in particular Microsoft Exchange, Office 365 and MS Teams
  • Knowledge of NTEs, VPNs and global communication methods.
  • Good working knowledge of networking and PC infrastructure Professional project management or estate qualification
  • Hands-on experience in managing projects.

Salary  
USD 2,947.41 Monthly.
