Job Title: Senior Account Manager

Job Description

  • The Account Developer is a part of NIQ/GfK’s ‘Consumer and Marketing Insights’ team responsible for East West Africa (EWA) and serves as link to our FMCG clients.
  • The role is to be a trusted adviser to our FMCG customers in the EWA region, matching CMI solutions to the clients’ key business questions.
  • This encompasses business growth targets for existing clients and overall responsibility for driving revenue growth of the assigned FMCG Vertical.
  • Candidates will need to have at least 6-7 years of experience in market research or account management.
  • They will also have strong interpersonal skills and use these to dive deep into the clients’ businesses, truly understanding the challenges and questions.
  • They live and breathe clients and can demonstrate the value of CMI solutions, thus driving engagement and growth in the business.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a defined list of FMCG accounts on behalf of NIQ/GfKs CMI EWA region, i.e. act as the main point of contact and trusted advisor for key clients
  • Conduct regular business reviews with clients and develop & execute strategic account plans
  • Understand client strategies, structures and key business questions to build sustainable client relationships and intimacy
  • Develop new and existing relationships (up to senior level) with customers to achieve sales growth
  • Understand and sell the value of the CMI portfolio
  • Lead contract negotiations both for new sales and renewals, incl. proposal writing, price calculations and pitch presentations
  • Grow the revenue base of your accounts, ensuring targets are met or exceeded
  • Work with CMI customer success teams to meet and exceed client expectations and identify opportunities for upselling and cross-selling.
  • Liaise cross-functionally with other NIQ/GfK brands & teams with a focus on a holistic client centric experience
  • Build and maintain an accurate and reliable pipeline within the CRM tool (Salesforce/MSD) and provide accurate sales forecasts on a regular basis
  • Involve yourself in project set-up and delivery when needed for enforcing/ building a client relation and/or due to capacity shortages within the CMI customer success teams
  • Keep abreast of market research methodologies, clients’ industry trends, and competitor activities

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree or post graduate qualification
  • Minimum 6-7 years work experience in market research or account management
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of market research methods
  • Experience in sales or consultancy role would be very welcomed but is not necessary
  • Strong client-oriented attitude
  • Ability to build and maintain long-term customer relationships
  • Able to “actively listen” to clients, identify business opportunities and understand how to commercialize them
  • Strong pitch and proposal writing skills
  • Willingness to go the extra mile
  • Passion, energy and drive, enthusiasm to learn and develop
  • Able to work autonomously and establish own priorities and objectives
  • Comfortable working across teams, bringing together people from different areas of the business
  • Highly organized, with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Software skills/ MS Office, especially PowerPoint

  • Actively join selected existing regular client interactions or provokes new ‘open agenda’ client interactions, in order to identify relevant topics to develop new commercial leads and Adhoc sales opportunities
  • Lead the negotiation of new deals/contract renewals and build winning proposals with a carefullyplanned sales pitch and strong arguments against competitive offers
  • Follows all steps of the Commercial funnel, diligently following up on next steps and engaging the Predict & Activate Sales team whenever needed to follow through with a new business lead on a client
  • Constantly monitor satisfaction in formal or informal interactions with client contacts to maximize positive Nielsen impact
  • Acts as the voice of the client’ inside Nielsen, making sure decisions are clientcentered in all planning discussions and in identifying new revenue streams
  • Ability to sell and meet revenue targets
  • Proficiency in soft skills usage.

Qualifications

  • Highly motivated and the target driven with a proven track record in sale
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office and Google Sheets, Slides, etc
  • Familiarity with Sales practices along with the ability to build productive business professional relationships
  • Excellent selling, communication, and negotiation skills

  • We are currently seeking a New Business Associate Director – CMI for East and West Africa who will be a part of the SSA CMI team.
  • This role combines business development, sales and marketing on the one hand (business development), with the creation of bespoke market research solutions for target clients (solution development), including pitching.
  • Essentially, the New Business Associate Director – CMI will own a revenue target for totally new clients i.e. clients we do not currently work with in east and West Africa, the sales process we have developed to unlock growth among new clients, and the successful development of winning research solutions for them.
  • Candidates will have accomplished skills ideally on both the business development and solutions development sides of the role. Whilst we have grown this area of our business, we see further huge potential to grow further.
  • This role will be the driving force in achieving our ambitions, by targeting, qualifying, and nurturing new client relationships, landing small initial wins to pave the way to much bigger game-changing wins.
  • As such, this is a crucial hire for us to realise our ambitions. You won’t be alone or without support: we have already a prioritized list of new clients we seek to target in various industries (FMCG, Retail, Banking), advanced capabilities in several areas (brand tracking, segmentation, ad pre-testing, customer satisfaction, qualitative research, etc). Whilst ambitious, the targets are realistic.

Responsibilities

  • Own the target list of clients we want to start working with in East and West Africa
  • Qualify and own the qualification criteria for this target list, to zero in on the clients who will be our game-changers
  • Hunt as many qualified clients as possible: initiate the relationship, nurture, land the first piece, then expand into much bigger pieces of work that will accelerate our growth
  • Connect client needs, to our clearly defined market research specialisms of brand tracking, segmentations, ad pre-testing, customer satisfaction, qualitative research, etc.
  • Own sales and marketing materials used to open and nurture relationships with new clients
  • Leverage local, regional and global account manager relationships (within CI and RMS/MI) to create inroads into new clients
  • Create bespoke proposals for new client pitches that connect their explicit and implicit needs, to uniquely contrived research solutions, that leverage the unique selling points of our chosen specialisations
  • Lead pitching to new clients, and support the pitch process for other clients
  • An ambitious but realistic sales target
  • This role will not however be responsible for delivering the work sold

Skills, Qualifications and Experiences

  • Ideally, you have minimum of a  Bachelor’s / Master’s degree, or equivalent experience
  • Experienced Consultant +10 years of relevant experience at agencies (some client side OK but needs competitive pitching experience), giving you the gravitas, sophistication, and problem-solving skills that only experience buys
  • You have experience of conducting business development in Sub-Saharan Africa, for local and international clients
  • You have deep experience in business development or sales, or at least a strong inclination towards commercial sense, structure, and discipline
  • Black book of client contacts in FMCG, FS, Media etc. a plus
  • You are an active listener, probing for implicit and not just explicit needs
  • Credible, confident, able to talk meaningfully with Senior Leadership Teams in Insights, Marketing, and Sales functions, and able to pitch to ELT where necessary
  • Willing and able to go hunting new clients
  • You bring a spirit of the entrepreneur, who galvanises support for themselves and their initiatives, from internal teams and clients
