The Wellbeing Foundation Africa (WBFA), founded in 2004, was created to improve health outcomes for women, infants, and children while working towards the systemic and structural changes in the areas of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH), Gender Equality, and Opportunity (GEO). At the WBFA, we combine our programs with advocacy work in Nigeria and worldwide, allowing every health worker, mother, and child access to life-altering advice, opportunities, and health solutions.

Job Title: Monitoring & Evaluation Officer

Location: Nigeria

Job Description

  • WBFA is seeking a highly motivated, results‐oriented individual with strong analytical, professional and creative acumen to fill the Monitoring and Evaluation role. The ideal candidate will have strong and proven strategic guidance, vision, and management experience.
  • The job role includes the successful monitoring and evaluation of all WBFA programs. This individual also supervises monitoring, evaluation, research, and learning (MERL) of staff and ensures the strategic and functional integration of all MERL activities as well as active collaboration with partner and donors.
  • The Officer oversees all MERL activities, provides technical direction and support, ensures the accurate reporting of results for program activities and ensures the program aligns with quality standards in line with global standards. He/She will report to WBFA National Programs Lead and liaise with the Global Office of the Founder‐President as required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a robust M&E framework for the Neonatal Jaundice Intervention Project.
  • Establish performance indicators, data collection methods, and reporting formats to track project progress.
  • Design data collection tools and methodologies for monitoring the effectiveness of the intervention activities.
  • Conduct baseline, midline, and end-line data collection activities to assess the project’s impact on neonatal jaundice outcomes.
  • Ensure high-quality data collection, entry, and analysis processes by developing data quality assurance protocols.
  • Manage data storage and ensure data integrity and security
  • Analyze project data to identify trends, patterns, and areas for improvement.
  • Prepare and disseminate periodic project performance reports, highlighting key findings, challenges, and recommendations.
  • Present M&E findings to the project team, stakeholders, and donors clearly and concisely.
  • Provide training and technical support to project staff and partners on M&E best practices, data collection techniques, and analysis tools.
  • Build the capacity of field staff in data management and reporting procedures to ensure accurate and timely information
  • Collaborate with the Project Manager to develop work plans, project timelines, and deliverables.
  • Participate in project planning meetings, stakeholder consultations, and field visits to provide M&E insights.
  • Work closely with program and field staff to integrate M&E activities into the overall project strategy.
  • Document lessons learned best practices, and success stories from the Neonatal Jaundice Intervention Project.
  • Facilitate knowledge-sharing sessions to promote continuous learning and improvement within the project team.
  • Contribute to the development of case studies and other materials for dissemination to stakeholders.
  • Ensure adherence to donor requirements and guidelines for data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Prepare high-quality donor reports in compliance with specified formats and deadlines.
  • Maintain up-to-date records of project M&E activities, ensuring transparency and accountability.
  • Clean and analyze data to generate informative reports.
  • Maintain secure and organized data storage systems.
  • Prepare accurate and timely reports on program performance and impact.
  • Contribute to the development of success stories and case studies.
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation of M&E activities and processes
  • Collaborate with M&E Manager and M&E State Coordinator to ensure alignment with organizational goals.
  • Work closely with program teams to provide M&E support and guidance.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with partners and stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Statistics, Social Sciences, Project Management, or a related field. A Master’s degree in a relevant field is an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in monitoring and evaluation, preferably in maternal and child health projects or neonatal health interventions
  • Understanding of neonatal jaundice, maternal and child health issues, and project management methodologies.
  • Proficiency in data management and analysis software (e.g., SPSS, STATA, Excel, KOBO toolbox, DHIS).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
  • Demonstrated experience managing and providing ongoing training to M&E field officers and/or sub‐awardees is required.
  • Knowledge of the major evaluation methodologies (e.g., qualitative, quantitative, mixed method, and impact) and data collection and analysis methodologies is required.
  • Excellent report writing, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical thinking with the ability to interpret complex data and draw actionable insights.

Job Description

  • The Midwife will be responsible for providing maternal and newborn care services with a focus on the prevention, early detection, and management of neonatal jaundice.
  • The midwife will work in health facilities and community settings, delivering clinical care, supporting newborn monitoring, and educating families on neonatal health and jaundice prevention.
  • The role includes close collaboration with healthcare teams, community health workers, and families to ensure timely intervention for newborns at risk.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide routine maternal and neonatal care with a focus on the early detection and management of neonatal jaundice.
  • Conduct regular physical assessments of newborns, monitoring for signs of jaundice.
  • Administer appropriate treatments for neonatal jaundice, following established protocols, including phototherapy and referrals to higher-level care if necessary.
  • Work closely with pediatricians and healthcare providers to ensure comprehensive care for newborns.
  • Educate mothers and families on the causes, signs, and prevention of neonatal jaundice.
  • Provide breastfeeding support and counseling, emphasizing its role in preventing jaundice.
  • Offer guidance on monitoring infants at home for early signs of jaundice and the importance of seeking timely medical attention.
  • Participate in community outreach programs to raise awareness about neonatal jaundice and its risks.
  • Collaborate with community health workers to ensure families are informed about available services and treatment options.
  • Conduct home visits, where necessary, to follow up with newborns recently discharged from healthcare facilities.

Qualification and Experience

  • Registered Midwife (RM), Bachelor of Nursing Science (B. NSc.)
  • At least 2 years of experience in maternal and newborn care, including neonatal care. Experience in managing neonatal jaundice or related conditions is an advantage
  • Strong clinical skills in maternal and newborn health, including the ability to recognize signs of neonatal jaundice.
  • Knowledge of neonatal health interventions, including phototherapy and other jaundice treatments.
  • Excellent communication and counseling skills to educate families and promote health-seeking behavior.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team and with community members.
  • Competencies:
