Job Title: Audit Associate (Retail)

Job Summary

  • Hartleys, one of the leading retail supermarket stores in Lagos, Nigeria is hiring an Internal Audit Associate who will be responsible for assisting in the execution of internal audit assignments, evaluating financial and operational risks, ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements, and providing recommendations for process improvements.
  • The role supports the Head of Internal Audit in safeguarding company assets and enhancing operational efficiency

Key Responsibilities
Audit Planning & Execution:

  • Assist in the planning and execution of internal audit assignments across all departments.
  • Conduct audits of financial statements, internal controls, and operational processes.
  • Assess compliance with company policies, standard operating procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify risks, inefficiencies, and control weaknesses, and recommend improvements.

Risk Management & Compliance:

  • Assist in evaluating the effectiveness of risk management frameworks within the organization.
  • Ensure adherence to company policies, accounting standards, and relevant legal and regulatory frameworks.
  • Monitor the implementation of audit recommendations to enhance internal controls.

Reporting & Documentation:

  • Prepare accurate and detailed audit reports highlighting findings, risks, and recommendations.
  • Maintain proper documentation of audit workpapers and evidence to support findings.
  • Provide regular updates and reports to the Head, Internal Audit on audit progress and key issues.

Fraud Detection & Investigation:

  • Assist in detecting, investigating, and reporting fraud, irregularities, and financial misconduct.
  • Review transaction records for anomalies and report suspicious activities.

Continuous Improvement & Support:

  • Support the implementation of best practices in internal audit and risk management.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices in auditing.
  • Assist in training and sensitization of employees on compliance and internal control measures

Educational Qualifications / Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
  • Professional certification or part qualification in ACA, ACCA, CIA, or CISA is an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 3-4 years of experience in internal audit, external audit, or risk management, preferably in retail, FMCG, or a related industry.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, internal control systems, and audit techniques.
  • Proficiency in audit software, ERP systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • High level of integrity, analytical skills, and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and report-writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Job Summary

  • We are hiring a Treasury Manager. who will be responsible for overseeing all financial transactions related to treasury management and accounts payable within the supermarket chain.
  • Primary focus will be to ensure efficient cash flow management, accurate financial record-keeping, and compliance with financial regulations.
  • He/she will work closely with cross-functional teams and external partners to optimize financial processes and contribute to the overall financial health of the organization.

Key Responsibilities
Treasury Management:

  • Develop and implement cash flow forecasting models to ensure sufficient liquidity for day-today operations.
  • Monitor and manage the company’s bank accounts, including reconciliations and transaction verification.
  • Evaluate and negotiate banking services and fees to minimize costs and maximize efficiency.
  • Implement and maintain treasury policies and procedures to mitigate financial risks.

Cash Flow Optimization:

  • Analyze financial data to identify opportunities for improving cash flow and working capital management.
  • Collaborate with procurement and inventory management teams to optimize inventory levels and reduce holding costs.
  • Develop and implement strategies to accelerate receivables and extend payables within acceptable terms.

Financial Reporting and Compliance:

  • Prepare periodic reports on cash flow, working capital, and accounts payable metrics for management and stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and internal policies.
  • Assist in audits and provide necessary documentation to auditors.

Team Leadership:

  • Supervise and mentor a team of treasury and accounts payable professionals.
  • Provide training, guidance, and performance evaluations to ensure a high-performing team.
  • Technology and Process Improvement:
  • Identify opportunities for automation and streamlining of treasury and payables processes.
  • Collaborate with IT teams to implement and maintain financial systems and tools.

Requirements
Educational Qualifications / Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • ACA/ACCA or equivalent certification is a plus.
  • Proven experience (4 years) in treasury management and accounts payable, preferably in the retail or supermarket industry.
  • Strong understanding of financial systems and technology, including proficiency in Excel and financial software.
  • Knowledge of financial regulations, accounting principles, and tax laws.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • The Financial Controller will be responsible for not only managing the financial health of the business but also providing strategic guidance to ensure the long-term success and sustainability of the supermarket chain.

Responsibilities

  • Financial Reporting: The Financial Controller is responsible for preparing and presenting accurate and timely financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements. These reports help senior management make informed decisions about the supermarket’s financial performance.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting: They play a crucial role in the budgeting process, working with department heads to establish financial goals and creating budgets that align with the supermarket’s strategic objectives. They also monitor performance against these budgets and provide insights into variances.
  • Financial Analysis: Conducting financial analysis is essential to identify trends, opportunities, and areas of improvement. Financial Controllers analyze key financial metrics and KPIs to inform decision-making and optimize financial performance.
  • Compliance: Ensuring compliance with accounting standards, tax laws, and financial regulations is a critical part of the role. This includes keeping up-to-date with changes in financial reporting standards and ensuring that the supermarket’s financial practices are in line with these standards.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as finance controller or head of account, finance officer, or in a comparable position.

  • Expertise with Microsoft Office and financial management software (e.g. SAP)
  • Capacity for strategizing and problem-solving
  • Strong leadership and management abilities

  • First degree in Accounting or any related discipline from a reputable institution ACA/ACCA certification is mandatory.
  • Over 8 years of post-graduate relevant work experience across various aspects of the Accounting
  • function (receivables, payables, credit control, budgeting, reporting, forecasting analytics, etc.)
  • Minimum of four (4) years in supervising or managing teams, with a track record of success.
  • Previous experience in Inventory and/or Vendor Management would be a definite plus. Advanced accounting knowledge, including experience in financial reporting using IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards).
  • Working knowledge of and demonstrated experience in the use of various accounting packages and systems.
  • Experience in financial modelling and reporting.
  • A good understanding of trends, opportunities, and regulatory/statutory requirements relating to the
  • Retail/FMCG Industry in Nigeria.
