The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) invites suitably qualified applicants to apply for its Overseas MSc and PhD scholarships for designated programs at selected institutions as part of the PTDF Overseas Scholarship Scheme for the 2025/2026 academic year.

The PTDF Scholarship 2025 is a comprehensive scholarship package that covers tuition, accommodation, travel expenses, and living costs for successful candidates studying in the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Malaysia, and Nigeria.

Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) Scholarship Overview:

The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), a Federal Government agency focused on building indigenous human capacity and advancing petroleum technology for the oil and gas sector, invites qualified Nigerians to apply for its 2025 overseas scholarship program.

This initiative was created to enable candidates to tap into a broad spectrum of global expertise and advanced learning environments provided by top-tier institutions around the world.

The PTDF Overseas Scholarship is aimed at nurturing homegrown talent to support the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry, and the scheme has recently been revamped to emphasize local capacity-building within Nigeria.

Latest Information on 2025/26 PTDF Overseas Scholarship Scheme

Scholarships under the revised scheme are available as follows:

  • Fully funded MSc scholarships in the UK, Germany, France, and Malaysia.

  • Fully funded PhD scholarships in Germany, France, and Malaysia.

  • Fully funded PhD scholarships for the UK are now available only as a Split-Site Programme through the PTDF College of Petroleum & Energy Studies, Kaduna (CPESK), in collaboration with three UK partner universities:

    • Robert Gordon University

    • University of Strathclyde

    • University of Portsmouth

Eligibility Criteria for PTDF Scholarship

For MSc Applicants:

  • A minimum of Second Class Upper (2.1) in their first degree OR a Second Class Lower (2.2) with relevant work experience in the industry.

  • Completion of the compulsory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

  • Proficiency in computer use.

  • Five O’level credits including English and Mathematics.

  • A personal statement (up to 500 words) explaining the motivation for the proposed study, its significance to the oil and gas industry, and its anticipated impact on national development.

  • A valid National Identity Number (NIN), which must be verified (NIMC verification fees apply) before application.

For PhD Applicants:

  • Completion of the mandatory NYSC program.

  • Computer literacy.

  • Five O’level credits including English and Mathematics.

  • A minimum of Second Class Lower (2.2) in their first degree and a solid postgraduate qualification.

  • A research proposal related to the oil and gas industry (maximum five pages) including the topic, introduction, objectives, methodology, and data collection approach.

  • Approved PhD research areas are available via the provided link.

  • University lecturers must include a letter from their Vice-Chancellor confirming they are not beneficiaries of any other scholarship.

  • Applicants must have a verified National Identity Number (NIN) (NIMC verification fees apply).
