The Federal Ministry of Education, Nigeria, has officially announced the commencement of the 2025 Federal Government Scholarship Award. This fully-funded initiative is available to both undergraduate and postgraduate Nigerian students.

This opportunity is open to students currently enrolled in Nigerian public or private universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.

Successful applicants will receive a renewable annual cash grant of ₦300,000, regardless of their background or religious affiliation.

About the Federal Government Scholarship 2025

The Honourable Minister of Education (HME), Prof. Maman Tahir, invites all interested and qualified Nigerian students to take part in the 2025/2026 Nomination Computer-Based Test (CBT) for the Federal Government Scholarship Award.

The Federal Scholarship Board (FSB) is responsible for awarding both local and international scholarships to deserving Nigerian scholars. It also handles obligations related to Multilateral Education Agreements, Bursary Awards, and Bilateral Education Agreements (BEA).

Eligibility Criteria for the Federal Government Scholarship

To qualify for the Federal Government Scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be full-time students in any Federal or State University.

  • Hold at least a first degree with Second Class Honours (for postgraduate applicants).

  • Be full-time students in their second year or above at a Federal or State University, Polytechnic, Monotechnic, or College of Education.

  • Have a minimum CGPA of 4.0 on a 5.0 scale or its equivalent, or 5.0 on a 7.0 scale (for UG, HND & NCE students).

  • NCE/HND applicants must have a minimum CGPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.

  • Not be a beneficiary of any other scholarship award or enrolled in part-time studies.

  • Refrain from changing course or institution during the scholarship period.

Scholarship Duration and Value

The award is applicable within Nigeria and is effective from the start of the academic session. The value of the scholarship includes:

  • Undergraduate Students: ₦250,000 per year

  • Postgraduate Students: ₦300,000 per year

  • HND Students: ₦150,000 per year

  • NCE Students: ₦150,000 per year
