About the British Council Language Teaching Scholarship

The UK Government, in partnership with the British Council, is offering scholarships for outstanding individuals who want to inspire the next generation of linguists and start a meaningful teaching career in England.

This scholarship supports applicants during their teacher training year in a Modern Foreign Language (MFL) subject: French, German, or Spanish.

Eligibility Criteria for the 2025 Teachers Training Scholarship

To be considered for the British Council Language Teachers Training Scholarship, applicants must:

Hold (or be predicted to achieve) at least a 2:1 Bachelor’s Honours degree (or international equivalent), or
Hold a relevant Master’s or PhD degree
Have academic or demonstrable proficiency in one of the following target languages:
- French
- German
- Spanish

Candidates with a 2:2 degree may still be considered if they demonstrate strong subject knowledge and commitment to teaching.

Additionally, applicants must:

Secure a place on an eligible, non-salaried teacher training program in England by September 2025, for the 2025/26 academic year.
