Nigerian Navy Recruitment 2026: Batch 39 Guide

Nigerian Navy Recruitment 2026: Batch 39 Requirements and How to Apply

Nigerian Navy Recruitment 2026 for Basic Training School Batch 39 opened on 2 October and closes on 31 October 2026 at 23:59 WAT. The form is online only. It is free. If anyone asks you for money, walk away.

This guide is for school leavers, OND and NCE holders, tradesmen, sports applicants, and parents helping a candidate apply. It follows the Navy’s Batch 39 notice and the entry guideline on the official portal. Where the social graphic and the PDF disagree, the PDF is the safer document to follow.

Apply only at joinnigeriannavy.navy.mil.ng. The main Navy site is navy.mil.ng. No agent is authorised to recruit for the service.

Nigerian Navy Batch 39 at a glance

Batch 39 is enlistment into the Nigerian Navy Basic Training School, not a direct officer course. Successful candidates train, then join as Ordinary Seamen.

Who can apply for Nigerian Navy recruitment

You must be a Nigerian citizen by birth and hold a National Identification Number. Dual citizenship is not allowed under the Batch 39 guideline PDF.

You must be medically, psychologically, and physically fit. A past criminal conviction bars you. You must be able to speak basic English. Weak English can get you dropped at any stage.

The guideline also says applicants must not be married, pregnant, or nursing. Tattoos are a bar. So are sight problems, ear problems, communicable disease, mental health conditions, stammering, physical disability, flat foot, poor dental health, spinal deformity, and BMI outside the Navy’s standard. The medical board, not a gym photo, decides fitness.

Height

Two official texts do not match. The recruitment graphic says males must be at least 1.69 m and females at least 1.65 m. The Batch 39 guideline PDF says males must not be below 1.68 m and females not below 1.65 m.

If you are 1.69 m or taller as a man, both texts are satisfied. If you are between 1.68 m and 1.69 m, confirm on the portal before you pay for transport to a centre. Female minimum in both texts is 1.65 m.

Age limit and certificates by entry type

Age is counted as at 31 December 2026, not the day you click submit. Results must come from WAEC, NECO, GCE, or NABTEB, in not more than two sittings, unless a trade category says otherwise.

O’Level and SSCE applicants

Age: 18 to 22. You need at least five credits, including Mathematics and English. The poster says those results must not be older than 2020. The PDF says the same thing in different words: not older than six years from the application date.

Some school-certificate categories also require Physics and Chemistry. Read the category list on the portal before you pick a branch. A credit in English and Maths alone may not be enough for the role you want.

OND, NCE, and related certificates

The poster groups OND and NCE applicants, plus Chaplain or Imam Assistants and Drivers or Mechanics, under 18 to 28, with O’Level results not older than 2015. The guideline PDF is stricter and split by category.

  • NCE, OND, and Registered Nurse or Midwife categories: 18 to 26. O’Level results not older than 2017.
  • Selected technical and trade categories, including some driver and mechanic routes: 18 to 28. O’Level results not older than 2017.

Bring your statement of result if you hold OND or NCE. HND and higher qualifications are not to apply for this ratings exercise. This is not the short-service or direct-entry officer intake.

Tradesmen and tradeswomen

You need a Trade Test certificate and a credit in English, with at least four passes in other subjects. The poster sets that O’Level window at not later than 2017. Trades named on the notice:

  • Tailoring
  • Carpentry
  • Plumbing
  • Masonry
  • Welding
  • Electrician
  • Painting
  • Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technology

City and Guilds or an intermediate trade certificate may be accepted for some mechanical categories. Upload the exact certificate the portal asks for. A workshop letter from your uncle is not a Trade Test.

Health professions and sports

Applicants in professions allied to medicine need an ND from a recognised Nigerian training school and a valid practising licence. Sportsmen and sportswomen must show proof of experience: certificates and medals, not a club jersey.

How to apply on the Nigerian Navy recruitment portal

One application only. A second profile can get both thrown out. Use an email and phone number you will still have in November.

  1. Open joinnigeriannavy.navy.mil.ng. Ignore lookalike domains.
  2. Create an account with email and phone. Both get a one-time code.
  3. Verify your NIN against NIMC, then complete the face check. The portal describes this as a short liveness match.
  4. Finish the form. The site says there are ten guided steps, with autosave and document checks.
  5. Upload files as JPG, PDF, or PNG. The guideline caps each file at 500 KB.
  6. Submit before 31 October 2026, 23:59 WAT. Print every slip the same day.

Passport photos should be recent, clear, and on a plain background. Name spellings must match your NIN. A mismatched middle name is a common reason people fail the identity check.

Forms to print after you submit

The notice tells you to print four documents:

  • Acknowledgement Form
  • Parent or Guardian Consent Form
  • Local Government Attestation Form
  • Guarantor’s Certification Form

The Local Government form must be signed by a Nigerian Navy officer of Commander rank or the equivalent in the Armed Forces, a Police officer of Superintendent rank or above, or your Local Government Chairman. Do not pay a tout to “help you get the signature.”

At the centre, also carry photocopies of your birth certificate or age declaration, credentials, first school leaving certificate or testimonial, and the scratch cards for WAEC, NECO, GCE, or NABTEB. The board verifies results. Forged papers can mean disqualification and handover to the police.

What happens after you apply

Shortlisted candidates sit the Recruitment Aptitude Test on 21 November 2026 at centres the Navy will name. Download your exam slip from the portal when it appears. Do not travel because a blog named a city.

Screening covers documents, medical checks, and physical tests. Impersonation, a fake result, or a recycled application from someone already caught in an earlier Navy exercise can end the process.

If you pass, you report for basic military training in the first quarter of 2027. Completion leads to enlistment as an Ordinary Seaman. Branch posting comes after training, not on the application form.

Mistakes that get applications rejected

  • Two accounts with the same NIN.
  • O’Level older than the cutoff for your category.
  • English or Mathematics missing from the five credits.
  • More than two sittings.
  • HND holder applying for a ratings batch.
  • Blurred upload over 500 KB, or a file type the portal rejects.
  • Guarantor form signed by a friend instead of the officers named on the notice.
  • Waiting until 31 October night, when the portal is slow.

Submit in the second week of October if your documents are ready. You still have time to fix a rejected upload. A last-hour crash does not extend the deadline.
