Job Title: Senior Accountant / Financial Controller
Location: Nigeria
Employment Type: Full-time
Reports to: Chief Operating Officer / Managing Director
Key Responsibilities
Financial Planning, Control & Reporting:
- Oversee day-to-day financial operations, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
- Lead the preparation and timely submission of financial statements, including:
- Management accounts (Income Statement, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow)
- CBN/Regulatory returns
- Monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for internal and external stakeholders
- Develop, monitor, and analyze budgets and financial performance. Conduct variance analyses and provide actionable insights.
- Prepare accurate cash flow forecasts to support liquidity and funding needs.
- Manage tax planning, computation, remittance, and statutory deductions (PAYE, VAT, WHT, etc.).
Compliance & Internal Controls:
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations including CBN guidelines, FIRS requirements, and IFRS standards.
- Establish and maintain robust internal control systems, policies, and procedures.
- Liaise with external auditors, regulators, and tax consultants.
- Ensure proper record-keeping, audit readiness, and risk mitigation.
Portfolio & Credit Oversight (Supporting COO):
- Collaborate with the credit and risk teams to ensure quality loan underwriting, sound credit decisioning, and portfolio monitoring.
- Monitor credit performance and analyze delinquencies; support recovery efforts and portfolio remedial actions.
- Conduct periodic loan book and collateral reviews to ensure compliance with facility agreements.
- Support the COO in credit risk evaluation and monthly risk asset meetings.
Strategic Financial Advisory:
- Provide insights and recommendations to support the company’s financial strategy, investment decisions, and operational improvements.
- Drive automation and digital transformation in the finance department.
- Track key financial metrics and performance indicators to support business goals.
- Assist in capital raising, investor relations, and business expansion strategies when required.
Key Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration (required).
- Qualified Accountant (ICAN/ACCA) – required.
- Minimum of 6 years progressive experience in financial management, preferably in a financial services or lending institution.
- Demonstrated experience in financial reporting, budgeting, tax, audit coordination, and regulatory reporting.
- Strong understanding of credit risk, loan operations, and treasury management.
- Hands-on experience with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, Zoho Books) and advanced Excel skills.
- Familiarity with Nigerian tax laws and CBN regulatory guidelines.

Job Overview
- The Senior Financial Manager will be responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the NGO and will work closely with the CEO to develop and implement financial strategies, policies, and procedures to ensure efficient financial management.
- The Senior Financial Manager will lead a team of financial professionals, provide financial analysis and reporting, and play a crucial role in budgeting, forecasting, and risk management for the NGO.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement the NGO’s financial strategic vision, policies, and procedures to support overall goals and objectives.
- Financial Management and reporting.
- High-level budgeting to align with strategic vision.
- Oversee financial operations of the organization and the ability to create and implement effective and efficient structure.
- Ability to utilize analytical skills to review financial data, assess performance and develop financial strategies.
- Oversee Income Tax and VAT processes and workings.
- Oversee Human Resource functions of the organization.
- Oversee the payroll of the organization.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and financial regulations applicable to the NGO.
- Prepare and present accurate and timely financial reports, statements, and analysis to the CEO and Board of the NGO.
- Monitor and analyse financial performance against budgets, forecasts, and key performance indicators, highlighting areas of concern and suggesting corrective actions.
- Manage financial relationships with external parties, including banks, auditors, and financial institutions.
- Conduct regular financial risk assessments, identify potential risks, and develop mitigation strategies.
- Ensure the implementation and maintenance of strong internal controls and financial systems.
- Manage and oversee audits, both internal and external, ensuring timely completion and adherence to audit requirements.
- Provide leadership and guidance to the finance team, including training, mentoring, and performance management.
Qualification and Experience
The following qualifications are a minimum requirement but not limited for this position:
- BSc. Accounting Hons. or similar.
- ICAN or ACCA required.
The successful candidate should have strong knowledge of financial principles, accounting standards, and reporting requirements. - At least 5 years’ experience in:
- Financial Management.
- Budgeting.
- Alignment of company finances to strategy.
- VAT.
- Financial reporting for decision-making purposes.
Basic Skill Requirements
The basic skills and relevant experience required for the position:
- Leadership skills to steer the finance office.
- Designing and implementing of financial strategies.
- Critical thinking skills
- Prolific experience and speed with Excel and Pastel.
- Proficiency in financial analysis, forecasting, and budgeting.
- Sound knowledge of financial systems and software, and the ability to leverage technology for efficient financial management.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities and deliver high-quality work within tight deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
- Understanding of the sports industry and its financial landscape is preferred.
Reporting Line:
- The Senior Financial Manager reports to the Executive Secretary General and dotted line to the General Manager.
