WaterAid is an international non-for-profit organization dedicated to helping people break free from poverty and disease, unlock their potential and change their lives for good through improved access to clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene. WaterAid started its operation in Nigeria in 1995. Since then it has successfully executed several intervention programmes as outlined by its objectives and has made impact in the lives of the very poor. WaterAid with the country office in Abuja currently works in Bauchi, Enugu and Plateau States with funding from various donors and partners.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Finance Support Consultant 

Location: Abuja
Employment Type: Contract
Duration: 5 Months
Reports to: Head of Finance and IT
Travels: At least 25%-time travel to support WaterAid state offices staff and Partners

Job Summary

  • The Finance & IT department provides leadership and support for financial management and IT across WaterAid Nigeria.

Job purpose

  • The Finance & IT Department provides leadership and support for financial management and information technology solutions across WaterAid Nigeria. The Finance Support Consultant plays a supportive role to the Finance Team in addressing identified gaps and to address workload challenge that would come with the exit of the FIT Intern.

Accountabilities 

  • Prepare schedules and handle monthly remittance of all statutory deductions (PAYE, PENSION, NHF, NSITF and WHT).
  • Handle the reconciliation of Staff National Housing Fund (NHF) contribution and updating of Staff NHF records with the regulatory authority.
  • Support in management and keeping of accounting records, files and other documentation.
  • Support preparing monthly Partner compliance report.
  • Induction and direct support for onboarding of the new FIT Intern

Essential Criteria

  • A bachelor’s degree or Higher National Diploma in Accounting
  • Minimum of two years’ post NYSC work experience in Accounting / Finance related role.
  • Previous experience in managing and supporting staff / partner organisations working on donor funded project.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong research and report writing skills an advantage.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills. Driven to meet deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills. Able to build relationships with colleagues and stakeholders, negotiate and influence across teams in order to achieve the best outcome.
  • Proactive approach. Identifies issues and challenges, and flags these with relevant colleagues so they are resolved in a timely manner.
  • Good attention to detail and accuracy in information processing, including compiling, coding, categorizing, calculating, tabulating, auditing, and verifying data.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Commitment to WaterAid values and a working style that reflects these.
  • A proactive approach, willingness to take on responsibilities and challenges, and actively work towards improvements and resolutions.
  • Team player and good interpersonal skills, able to support, challenge and influence effectively to maintain good relationships and quality in delivery

  • Manage our global induction approach, creating and updating guidance and resources to support a consistent induction experience for all WaterAiders at a local level.
  • Manage the design, guidance and resources of our senior leadership induction to ensure a consistency of experience and expectation across the global whole.
  • Support the development and design of WaterAid’s performance management approach and principles ensuring guidance and learning resources are available and shared with the global people network.
  • Provide oversight of our e-learning provision, working with the Learning Hub manager and WAUK Learning Manager to ensure content is aligned to our strategic priorities and meeting the needs of the global whole.
  • Provide tailored leadership, management and learning development approaches and senior team development initiatives to address identified priorities as agreed with the relevant stakeholder/business partner.
  • Pro-actively maintain expert knowledge about latest trends in learning and management development and use this to support the creation of impactful programmes and approaches aligned to organisational priorities.

About You

  • Be a credible advisor able to build trusting relationships and be a thinking partner
  • Be an excellent designer with an ability to design creative and engaging learning solutions that deliver on the defined need and desired outcomes.
  • Be skilled at identifying and analysing needs, developing relevant approaches and evaluating effectiveness.
  • Have expert knowledge and experience of learning and management development approaches and practice.
  • Have experience of partnering with third parties to design and deliver learning interventions.
  • Have experience of working globally, with an appreciation of cultural differences and of the difference this makes to learning styles and ways of working
  • Have strong coaching and mentoring skills with an approach that builds capacity rather than dependency.
  • Have project management experience, managing learning projects from end to end.
  • Be a team player, able to work in a collaborative way, with flexibility and resourcefulness.

Although not essential, we also prefer you to have:

  • Experience of learning management systems
  • The ability to facilitate and/or coach in other languages, particularly French, Spanish or Portuguese would be an advantage.
  • HR or Learning and development qualifications, Coaching & Mentoring certification, psychometric assessments, etc.

Job Summary

  • The Finance & IT department provides leadership and support for financial management and IT across WaterAid Nigeria.

Job purpose

  • The idea of this role of the Finance Intern is intended to be a learning and development opportunity for young professionals to gain exposure and build skills through work in an international development organization and potentially, build a crop of professionals with experience relevant to the international development or other professional sectors.

Accountabilities 
A key responsibility of the intern will be to provide support to the Finance and IT department and the CP at large, in a number of capacities and activities. These will include:
Cash Management:

  • Ensure accuracy, security and documentation of petty cash and cash receipts. Be the custodian of office petty cash.
  • Ensure that petty cash is maintained at agreed minimum levels through collection of cash from bank when required.
  • Support in postings of transactions into SUN, Vision and other systems/ templates.
  • Support in monthly reconciliations, remittances and payments.

Filing and Documentation:

  • Support in management and keeping of accounting records, files and other documentation.
  • Stamp “paid” on all paid payment vouchers and supporting documents.
  • Support the process to ensure accurate and adequate documentation and recording of WaterAid Nigeria income and expenditures.

Support in internal controls:

  • Send monthly update to staff on status of staff advances.
  • Reconcile and explain all outstanding balance on staff debtor and creditor account.

Support in partner finance management:

  • Support in processing of partner funds transfer
  • Other roles as may be assigned

Essential criteria:

  • BSC or HND in Accounting or Business Administration or any social sciences
  • Completion of National Youth Service Scheme.
  • Basic computer skills Microsoft Word and Excel.

Desirable criteria:

  • Student membership of a professional accounting body (ICAN, ACCA etc)
  •  Excellent computer skills particularly Microsoft Excel .
