Job Summary

  • We are seeking an individual to assist in monitoring human rights developments, supporting campaigns and growth activities, and conducting research in various areas of focus, including arbitrary arrests, unlawful detentions, unlawful killings, women’s rights, media freedom, civic space, freedom of expression, forced evictions, torture and cruel inhuman and degrading treatment, discrimination, and access to justice.

Main Responsibilities

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting with research and investigations on the human rights situation in Nigeria.
  • Monitoring human rights developments, including decisions by national, regional, and international human rights bodies.
  • Supporting the development, organization, and implementation of campaigns, communication efforts, human rights education, and growth activities. This involves searching for and compiling relevant information, creating short notes or briefings, and systematically documenting materials for easy retrieval.
  • Assisting in the planning of meetings, seminars, workshops, and providing logistical support as needed.
  • Processing incoming inquiries, petitions, letters, and handling other administrative tasks.
  • Drafting letters, reports, blog posts, articles, and informative pieces for both internal and external audiences.
  • Documenting minutes of weekly team meetings and sending them to the team administrator for review and final submission.
  • Contributing to the team’s response during crises or unexpected work.

Working Relationship

  • You will report to the Programmes Manager at Amnesty International Nigeria. You won’t manage any posts, but you will collaborate with various staff members within Amnesty International Nigeria, including researchers, campaigners, and the Finance and Office Manager. Additionally, you will have connections with the West and Central Africa Regional Office (WARO) and the International Secretariat (IS).

Skills, Attributes, and Experience

To excel in this role, you should have:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in a relevant field or relevant professional qualifications.
  • Degrees in social sciences or international relations, and law would be advantageous.
  • A Master’s Degree is a plus.
  • Demonstrated interest in human rights, which could be evidenced through previous work, membership in an organization, or involvement in human rights advocacy.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a helpful and personable attitude.
  • Proficiency in oral and written communication in English; knowledge of other relevant local languages or additional foreign languages is desirable.
  • Excellent analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail to ensure accuracy of financial records and invoices.
  • The ability to multitask effectively to manage multiple accounts, invoices, and payments at various stages of execution.
  • High efficiency in handling accounting documentation quickly with minimal interference.
  • The capacity to manage conflicting demands, work on deadlines, and multitask to achieve results.
  • A flexible approach to work and a willingness to undertake a range of tasks.
  • The ability to work in alignment with the organization’s core behaviors and competencies.
  • Proficiency in standard office software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • A good understanding and use of social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and multimedia tools like Canva is a plus.

Salary

  • The salary for this position is N100,000 per month.
