We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Markets Business Manager – Nigeria, West and Central Africa

Job Overview

  • Given the increasing industry and regulatory focus around control-related tasks, this role is critical to maintaining a robust control environment across multiple desks and businesses within the Markets organisation.
  • The role is key to enabling business growth through maintaining a sound control environment, facilitating new business initiatives, product expansion and driving technology change within the business
  • The role will cover all asset classes within the markets organisation. The job holder should be able to work well in a team environment within the country/business as well as manage matrix reporting lines and should be able to function without close supervision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide updates related to financial performance , opportunities, risk and control issues, escalation points, and regulatory engagement.
  • Support the business in facilitating new business initiatives, product expansion and driving technology change.
  • Create and provide effective metrics to stakeholders and management teams across various risk stripes.
  • Advance control framework including executing Manager’s Control Assessment testing, operational loss processes, and corrective actions.
  • Build strong relationship with country product,  business and function partners and coordinate effectively across the Markets team.
  • Liaison with desk heads, support functions building relationships with control and support functions to develop and deliver on business strategy.
  • Seek out and ensure corrective actions are implemented for control related issues across the spectrum of control functions with a goal of driving a robust, harmonized business model for the country.
  • Have a critical mind and question processes and frameworks with an objective of risk reduction.
  • Preparation of meeting materials, ensuring minutes are accurately recorded and tracking follow-up items.
  • Relay business knowledge, product knowledge, and requirements to business and internal support functions where required.
  • Communicate (written and oral) information within and between the businesses and support functions.
  • Build effective prioritization skills as the job entails dealing with multiple conflicting priorities in a time- pressured environment.
  • Other ad hoc administration tasks that support the activities of the business including strategy presentation.
  • Business support for Internal and external/ regulatory exams/audits.

Requirements

  • A minimum of First Degree or its equivalent plus a relevant higher Degree or professional qualification.
  • A minimum of 15 years post-graduation experience out of which at least 10 years must have been in the banking industry and at least 3 years on senior manager grade.
  • Relevant experience in financial markets either in the business or business support functions
  • Exposure to financial markets related products and experience would be an advantage.
  • Understanding of the broader financial markets regulatory landscape
  • Evidence of experience in at least 3 major areas of banking operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Market Growth- Work across product peers to drive business growth and expand market share in Nigeria & Ghana, executing global strategy
  • Client Focus- Foster and maintain strong relationships with key clients, partners and stakeholders in Nigeria & Ghana. Relay and influence meeting the needs of the Client with global product peers
  • Financial Performance- Drive client revenue growth, manage profitability, manage KPIs and track performance of the Nigeria & Ghana business. Hold partners and functions accountable for enabling Services performance.
  • Governance, Risk & Control- Manage risk and control standards and foster a culture of compliance across the organization. Ensure the business operates within the appropriate legal entity governance framework for Nigeria & Ghana Services business. Ensure local oversight of associated risk management, regulatory and control considerations. Work closely with second and third line partners (Legal, Compliance, Market and Credit Risk, Audit, Finance) to ensure strong engagement with Services, and partner with them to ensure appropriate governance and control infrastructure
  • Talent Development- Lead, mentor and develop a high-performing team, fostering a collaborative and results-oriented work environment. Promote an inclusive and ethical culture, and oversee team development plans
  • Innovation- Champion a culture of innovation, driving digitization and the adoption of cutting-edge technologies to enhance client experience and operational efficiency
  • Business Strategy- Formulate and execute a strategy for Nigeria and Ghana in light of evolving market needs, including branch strategy, people strategy, product roadmap, future technology and platform needs for the countries
  • Industry and Market Knowledge- Stay abreast of industry trends, regulatory changes and the competitive landscape to identify opportunities, influence global products to adapt and mitigate potential risks
  • Market and Regulatory Advocacy-  Formulate the strategy around and lead external engagement with appropriate regulatory bodies. Drive Citi’s agenda and desired outcomes

Qualifications

  • Min. 1st Degree or equivalent in any discipline plus a relevant higher degree or professional qualification
  • Candidates must also have a minimum of 15 years postgraduation experience, out of which at least 12 must have been in the banking industry and at least 2 as VP/Deputy General Manager
  • Evidence of experience in at least three (3) major areas of banking operations.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Extensive experience in financial services, with a proven track record of success in leading and growing a large businessDeep understanding of Services’ core product areas: Payments, Liquidity Management, Trade and Working Capital, Investor Services, and Issuer Services
  • Exposure and track record in both CCPS (Corporate Commercial and Public Sector)  and FI (Financial Institutions) segments
  • Strong track record in developing and nurturing client and vendor relationships
  • Knowledge of Nigeria and Ghana regulatory landscape.
