Job Title: Business Development Manager, Power & Renewable Energy

Job Overview

  • The BD Manager, Power & Renewable Energy, is responsible for identifying, developing, and securing new business opportunities within and outside the Nigerian power and renewable energy market.
  • The BDM will be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders (local communities, government bodies, and development agencies) as well as the preparation of applications for tenders and the preparation of investment profiles, developing winning proposals, and driving revenue growth for the Power and Renewable Energy business, and offering technical support to team members, and researching, developing, and marketing Power, Solar, and Renewable Energy solutions to prospective customers as well as drive the development of mini grids, interconnected mini grid, embedded solar generation etc. in Nigeria Energy market.
  • The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated, results-oriented individual with a proven track record of success in business development within the energy sector.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-depth market research to identify emerging trends, customer needs, and potential business opportunities in the Nigerian power and renewable energy market
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive business development strategy aligned with the company’s overall goals and objectives for the Power and Renewable Energy unit
  • Prepare reports and presentations on market trends, competitive analysis, and business development opportunities
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, i.e., REA, NDPHC, TCN Ministry of Power, ECN, Total Energy, etc., regulatory bodies, utility companies, private sector investors, and potential customers
  • Identify and qualify new business opportunities through various channels, including networking, market research, tendering, and Proposal Development
  • Lead the development of high-quality, technically sound, and commercially competitive proposals in response to RFPs (Requests for Proposals) and other solicitations.
  • Manage the proposal development process from inception to submission.
  • Drive revenue growth for the Power and Renewable Energy unit by securing new business deals
  • Demonstrate a strong technical understanding of power generation technologies (e.g., gas turbines, solar PV, hydro, wind), energy storage systems, and grid infrastructure
  • Understand the technical and economic aspects of renewable energy projects, including financing models, tariffs, and grid interconnection.
  • Ability to discuss technical concepts with potential clients and internal teams
  • Analyze competitor activities, market share, and pricing strategies.
  • Collaborate effectively with internal teams, including HOD power and Renewable Energy unit, to ensure successful project execution.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all business development activities
  • Capture and institutionalize the company’s strategy for deploying new business opportunities for power, solar, and renewable energy in a way that is scalable portfolio in Nigeria.
  • Prospect for potential business opportunities within the Public and Private sectors and convert such opportunities into true business
  • Identify and lead strategic partnerships across public and private sectors, academia, suppliers, service providers, and grant funders that support new business development, productive uses of energy, and value-added services
  • Support P & RE efforts for new customer-facing Business Development projects, which may include customer surveys, sourcing, and testing appliances
  • Participate in closing new business deals by coordinating requirements, developing and negotiating contracts, and integrating contract requirements with business operations
  • Prepare business proposals, reports, and related presentations as required by the P & RE Unit
  • Work with the HOD P& RE unit to identify and evaluate market, new target clients, also develop and implement a strategic sales plan
  • Will be reporting to HOD Power & Renewable Energy (P & RE) unit

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or related field) with a strong technical aptitude
  • Minimum of 15 years’ relevant professional business development experience, sales with cognate experience in the design of Power and Solar/Wind Energy systems and Marketing of Power and Renewable Energy within the Nigerian Energy and Oil & Gas Market.
  • MBA or equivalent post-graduate degree would be an advantage
  • Proven track record of success in securing new business deals and driving revenue growth.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills
  • Strong negotiation, networking skills, and ability to form and maintain strategic relationships with relevant government agencies and regulatory bodies
  • Strong project management, organizational, and communication skills to coordinate across teams in a complex business environment, build internal support and momentum for projects, and interface with external partners
  • Keen understanding of the energy access and/or renewable energy industries in Africa
  • Evidence of having successfully developed and led the implementation of a new route-to-market strategy for existing and completely new power, solar, and renewable energy products
  • Ability to understand the customer’s technical and application needs to promote the appropriate company product that meets the customer’s requirements
  • Ability to build an environment and relationship of trust and credibility with customers, understanding customers’ needs, and to position their needs in the competitive environment
