Job Description

  • We are looking for a highly experienced and professional Accountant to join our growing supermarket.
  • The successful candidate must have a deep understanding of all financial transactions peculiar to supermarket operations, including inventory, sales, expenses, and profit analysis.
  • This role requires someone who is proactive, detail-oriented, and commercially astute, capable of providing management with accurate financial insights to support sound decision-making and long-term business profitability.

Responsibilities
Financial Transactions & Reporting:

  • Record, monitor, and reconcile all daily financial transactions across multiple sales channels (POS, cash, transfers, credit sales).
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, management accounts, and reports.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting standards, and statutory requirements.

Inventory & Cost Control:

  • Manage inventory accounting, ensuring proper valuation and reconciliation of stock.
  • Collaborate with procurement and store teams to track stock movement and minimize losses or leakages.
  • Analyze cost structures and recommend cost-saving measures without compromising quality.

Profitability & Business Advisory:

  • Conduct financial analysis to advise management on the profitability of the supermarket and individual product categories.
  • Provide insights on sales trends, pricing strategies, and margins.
  • Develop strategies to improve cash flow, reduce overhead, and maximize profit.

Cashflow & Treasury Management:

  • Monitor receivables and payables to maintain healthy cashflow.
  • Ensure accurate and timely payroll management.
  • Liaise with banks on reconciliations, loans, and other financial services.

Audit & Compliance:

  • Prepare schedules and documentation for external auditors.
  • Ensure tax compliance (PAYE, VAT, WHT, and other statutory deductions).
  • Implement and maintain strong internal financial controls.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 6 – 8 years’ accounting experience in a supermarket, retail, or FMCG environment.
  • ICAN certification (or active student membership) is a strong advantage.
  • Strong proficiency in accounting software and MS Excel.
  • Demonstrated expertise in inventory management, management accounts, and retail financial analysis.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and leadership ability.
  • Must be able to work with the rigorous demands of supermarket operations (including extended hours, weekends, and holidays as required).
  • Must reside within or close to Anthony, Lagos.

Role Overview
