Job Summary
The WASH Technical Assistant will provide support to the WASH officer in various aspects of COOPI’s WASH Technical programs. This includes planning, infrastructure design, implementation, construction supervision, monitoring, and evaluation under the BHA project in Sokoto State. The assistant will actively contribute to the implementation of the support function portfolio based on the established plan.
Essential Job Functions
1. Project Implementation and Supervision:
- Coordinate WASH Technical activities in alignment with strategy, proposals, budgets, and plans, under the guidance of the WASH officer.
- Assist in designing WASH infrastructures, monitoring construction progress, ensuring quality control, and implementing programs.
- Compile weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports on WASH and Technical activities, program documents, activities forecasts, and expenditures.
- Engage and inform communities and community leaders about project activities.
- Collaborate with the WASH Assistant Public Health/Hygiene promotion to plan and execute WASH field activities.
- Ensure timely procurement, development, and distribution of materials and equipment according to procedures.
- Identify water and sanitation needs within the community.
- Develop technical specifications and bills of quantities (BOQ) for construction projects.
- Assess training needs related to water and sanitation in IDP camps and communities and assist in developing appropriate training materials and plans.
- Conduct water quality testing and sanitary inspections at water points.
- Provide technical assistance to the WASH officer and local counterparts regarding water and sanitation information and communication strategies.
- Assist in establishing and training community-based WASH committees, as well as monitoring their performance.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
2. Information Management / Reporting:
- Provide regular reports on field site works and challenges to the team lead.
- Ensure accurate management of construction and infrastructure data for the assigned sites.
- Submit progress reports related to work activities to the team lead.
3. Security Management Responsibilities:
- Take responsibility for day-to-day security management related to program implementation.
- Adhere to security procedures and policies, promptly reporting any breaches.
- Perform other relevant tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Geology, WaterResources, Building Technology, or Architecture, with extensive field experience. Professional license is a plus.
- Proficiency in using AUTOCAD engineering design software.
- Strong verbal and written English language skills.
- Willingness and ability to be based and travel regularly in remote areas with limited network coverage.
- Fluency in both Hausa and English.
- Minimum of two years of experience in field-level construction project management and supervision.
- Experience in effectively supervising contractors and evaluating their performance, especially in WASH projects.
- Good knowledge of Nigerian construction standards, codes, and regulations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software applications (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook, Access).
