Description
- FieldCore, part of GE Vernova is looking for an EHS Specialist to join our Environmental Health and Safety team based in Nigeria.
About the Role
- As the Site EHS Specialist you will manage field personnel to ensure compliance with Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) policies, programs, procedures, and legislative standards.
- You will communicate and contribute to the development of site-based programs, conduct onsite EHS audits and inspections, and provide recommendations for improving EHS performance and creating a NO HARM culture.
- Furthermore, you will ensure all personnel and employees are informed of safe working procedures and practices so that they can fulfil their responsibilities and manage required compliance activities, including the implementation of in-country legislation and FieldCore Environmental Health and Safety requirements and standards.
How You Will Make a Difference
- Develop, understand, and maintain the OneEHS project plan. Provide support to communicate and manage all sections of the plan.
- Support audits, incident investigations, and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) of Near Miss and incidents to ensure safe work procedures are being followed in respect to Company policy, OHSA, EPA, DOT, and client/ company policy as well as applicable regulatory state and federal laws within specified area where work is being performed. Ensure Emergency Response capabilities are solidified and maintained.
- Develop and deliver project-specific site orientation training to all personnel under FieldCore control arriving at any point throughout the project to ensure that all site personnel and employees are informed of site safe working procedures and practices fulfil their responsibilities. Familiarize them with site EHS requirements, focus areas and any job specific hazards. Ensure that records of attendance are maintained.
- Review customers permit systems, including requirements for site posting of permits, LOTO, Hot Work, Confined Space procedures, and FieldCore Lift Plans.
- Provide classroom based EHS training as required.
You will also have:
- Completed OSHA 30 Training
- NEBOSH International General Certificate is desirable to have
- Preferably experience and knowledge of the risks involved in the maintenance of equipment in the power generation industry.
- Proficiency in English.
Special Role Requirements:
- Able to travel extensively to and from projects and various assignments.
- Willing to work holidays, weekends and overtime as required by assignments.
- Ability to spend considerable time away from home for training and assignments.
Skills for Success:

- Actively manage controls and instrumentation activities on-site during Installation, Commissioning and Maintenance of upgrade project or new installation, including but not limited to oversight of installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and diagnostics for controls system such as Mark V, Mark Vi, Mark Vie, Cimplicity and HMI’s..
- Provide customers with technical direction and support on Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) packaged products.

Requirements
What you’ll bring (Basic Qualifications):
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and 5 years of experience, or 10 years of experience without formal degree, in power plant maintenance, turbine generator maintenance, or power plant electrical equipment installation/ commissioning.
- Experience working on GEV Controls systems such as Mark V, Mark Vi, Mark Vie/s etc.
- Proven working experience in Oil & Gas and Power Plant industry field activities.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, to convey technical concepts to business and technical personnel
- Strong knowledge in rotating equipment control philosophy (Gas Turbine, Steam Turbine, Centrifugal Compressor, Reciprocate Compressor) and their auxiliaries
- Strong knowledge in unit control panel (UCP), motor control centre (MCC), direct current panel (DCP), distributed control system (DCS) and firefighting system installation and commissioning
- Strong knowledge in field devices, instruments and actuators (servo-valves, thermos elements, transmitters etc…)
- Ability to handle special tools like pressure pump, multi-meter, frequency generator, oscilloscope and field generator
- Ability to understand and implement technical drawings (wiring diagram, P&ID, General Arrangement, etc…).
- Ability to work under pressure
- Willing to travel, in country and worldwide, and to work over-time
- Valid driver’s license and passport (or able to obtain a passport).
- Strong computer skills using MS Office software
